hope your heart is as broad and opened as your mind to accommodate ppl with a narrow mind.

but cant see that from your latest reply.

you sound wise and humble talking this way, trying to project a mindset that have the capacity to accommodate different views and diverse opinions. but when ppl provide harsh comment and tough advice, you show true self.

trying to ownself pose question and ownself answer, you are one guru not to be taken lightly in this forum. if you are seriously seeking for advise, be humble to stomach even if the reply is sh*t. don't try to act smart by silent declaration that your opinion is best yet staying at the value of 2 cents. and thanks for preaching the ideology of taking "the middle path", it does not help. and it certainly not appreciated for deeming the reply of others as narrow-minded by boasting how well you can and other should accommodate each other's opinion.

open your mind when you pose question or prepare to open your *ss.h

Hi All Bros,

Do you guys think that a management / business degree can complement our career in HSE in spore ? Not keen to go for Mech degree and can't find any other degrees that can suit my needs and requirements.

Thanks for all the inputs, topics like this definitely have different views, no right or wrong, all are food for thought. My view is that safety managers are experienced wsh practitioners like wsho , auditors and such with preferably the ability to manage resources (human, financial) , no? That's when the business degree comes in handy, in my humble view, it's more suitable than a safety degree as u would already have the technical and safety abilities. Just my 2 cents.

Agreed. Must also have the capacity to hear others opinions, the world don't just work in 1 way. If you are too narrow minded and cannot accept that everyone works and thinks differently, you are doomed.

regards,

Hello, rather you keep your humble view and dump your worthless 2 cents in the sea. Dont act pro by trying to talk diplomatic. It doesnt help.

Yo cstay66,

Everyone with eyes can see that you started all this crap. A forum is for discussion, U can disagree with me and I can disagree with you, I'm just stating my point of view but you are taking it personally thus your post have no value add to anybody. Why do you inferred that I'm acting pro? That's only your imagination...

I can decide my way of writing and again, your inference on me have no basis nor truth. I am sorry if the way I write induces you to think otherwise. Maybe you are having a bad spell in life, everyone does, I can accept that.

I am definitely no Guru nor saying that my opinion is best (as inferred by you) but you have a talent of imagining things on ppl whom you don't know...

And by the way, please look at your reply on 22-03-2011 08:37 PM , it is worst than sh*t, it's a personal attack without any basis and it doesn't make any sense. In fact, it is not a reply, I'm too disgusted to think of a word to describe it.

FMC,

Strong words without any basis whatsoever again? Like tat u cannot survive when u go court lah, must have substance to defend and proof yourself mah.

Anyway, Cliques are part and parcel of workplaces and forums and we just have to manage it. Doesn't mean a whole clique of workers doing dangerous stunts together and insisting they are correct means they are really correct and safe. Hope you learn something.

How can we as Safety Professionals expect or support change when we ourselves are not open to some basic questions from our own peers without throwing them under the bus, or worst, launch baseless personal attacks on oneself ?

Dear safety officers, Happen to come across this forum...seems like there is some discussions going on. I do not know the heads or tails of this discussion but I have something to say.

The reason why I’m in the safety field is because of only one reason: People! It’s those people doing hands-on work on the front line that I care about. Most accidents occur on the ground level. Supervisors seldom get hurt. Remuneration plays a big part but end of the day you have to ask yourself: Why am I doing this? I am in the safety field for 10 years now..there are many times I really want to quit but those front line personnel always gave me the drive to carry on…academic qualification plays a big part to be a SO nowadays but regardless what diploma, degree, masters ect you have…you must have “people skills”…without that skill, you will not go far in this line of work..there is a difference between forcing people to do things as opposed to letting them understand for themselves why it’s done this way…”factories act” is easy to enforce but to create a good “safety culture” is very difficult…That’s my take anyway…I’m sure there is more old birds in here than me…

My main agenda for coming in here is to ask if anyone here as taken the confined space safety assessor course conducted by NTUC…it’s it difficult?. It’s a four days course with a written exam… the word “EXAMS” really give me the creeps man…

I fully agreed, I am a FSM of a building currently holding basic cert in WSH, whenever people see me, it seem like I am kicking up a big fuss over something small. Is quite disheartening and without support of the higher management. They put you there cos the building needs FSM.

Is a tough job and not appreciated as 99.99% things wont happen.....
