Hi, I am a newbie here. Would like to know more about the registration process for RSO. After submission of the required documents, does MOM really go and do a check what u have submitted ? Such as your employment history and those relevant WSH job responsibilities that u have claimed in the professional work review ? Thats why the application will take so long ???

The chance is slim... Now adays there's alot of personnel from other industry trying to benchmarking to WSh industry & most of them hold a very high education... Degree / Master...

See ar I'm now still serving my national service. Den I got a dip In chemical and pharmaceutical technology. I'm just applied for the part time degree in unisim safety and human factor hoping to become a safety officer. What job can I find so that I can utilize the cert I have that I can help in my career as a safety officer. With my cert can I apply for a job in a safety department in a chemical process? Coz I'm thinking of working in a plant as a Plant operator den after I get my degree I go look for a job in the similar field as an safety officer hoping to get the job with my plant experience. Or anyone recommend any path which better for me?

hey peeps, i have a some questions.. pls enlighten me..

1. how does the SSSC, BCSS, OPIS and BISH help in the safety line? i know that its not the requirement to get into the WSH courses. is it solely for my own knowledge or ill be of better value with these courses in future.

2. hows does the lifting course help me?

3. what other sub courses do they have? (as of now, i know theres FSM, hotwork assessor, confine space assessor and mebosh?)

thankxs guys.

(sorry for the silly questions. i know nuts abt it. just want reviews n tips from the experienced. so i can plan wad course i shud take up 1st and also in future.. switching job. :) thankx again. )

Hi Bro,

Some humble opinions of mine regards to safety courses.

If u intend switching career to safety line, then should go for advance cert then escalate to specialist diploma.

For NEBOSH Cert, will be useful if you intend to work overseas but the cert is valid to some companies in singapore. I intend to take NEBOSH too.

For others, eg confined space assesor, lifting, hotwork assessor u can go for the courses later on as all these courses is just short time duration course.

Being a Safety Officer is not just about getting the qualifications (which used to be very difficult to get), its about knowing what are the hazards and what to do about it and managing it. And managing people is not easy.

These days the bar is quite low given that the courses are modular and alot easier unlike the older SOTC courses by MOM where you need to take very difficult exams.

Dear Guys,

I'm somehow new here since last logged in year 2005... well i have been an site engineer, project engineer for almost 7 years.. just recently has the thought of changing to WSH line, currently unemployed cos taking a break & looking for a safety job.

I'm quite a cert collector... having diploma, degree in mechanical, safety certs such as confined space accessor, Risk mgt, lifting sup, Advanced cert in WSH and other technical skills certs.

Now at my home study for PMP exam and looking forward to enroll in august Specialist dip in wsh fr SP.

I am now taking a risk to start a new career to wsh cos the starting pay may be lesser but i do see the prospect in wsh as MOM is promoting sg as a reowned safety execellance hub by yr 2018.. so there might be lots of job opportunity for safety personnel.

Nice to know you guys and hope we could interact & share ideas thr this forum!

Hi gacktrvf, Great to see you in WSH line. having a machanical degree would help you boost up your WSH career.. proven myself! Im a civil degree holder who is in WSH line currently, It embark me to stand out among the rest of wsh personnel in the construction sector, as it's relevant to what im studying back in university days. Am thinking of doing a master in OHS now...

Hi FMC,

Nice to hear from you! care to tell me more abt yourself? when did u start wsh line? now whats your position now? i'm actually dilemma in choosing either NUS Master or Specialist Diploma cos i feel Specialist Diploma is a much shorter route to achieve RSO. Then the next 2 year's time you could get ECO, Noise monitoring cert & at the same time obtaining the 40 SDU points.. But Master u need to spend approxi $12000 & 2 years time w/o the room to upgrade to obtain SDU points (cos master has covered all eligible certs)

So seeking for advice which is better way?

Thanks

gacktrvf

i think you still dont get what i mean? u see in this world, who in mba dont get to be a manager? u will be stuck at a safety manager if u go for safety degree..why not u climb higher?u cant go further than tt..safety manager position is a more dangerous position than tt of a GM do u know? if not why u think they wanna hire a safety manager for? to send u go to jail la..if not why the hell they pay u such a huge amount?one single fatal accident and if u cant cover urself for like 150%, u will need to pay the price..100% is not enough.. safety courses u must go for the right 1 right?no body ask u to anyhow take without seeing..and also yes..i agree with u, safety is not all abt system..but who is at fault?they always say humans..u cant pin point its human at fault totally if theres an accident..if an accident happen, the system sure has something to do with it..u got tons of ppl to handle..how r u going to handle all i ask u? i dun think our views meet eye to eye..i still think an mba has a better prospect than a safety degree..mba i can tell u it can surely give u 98% of the management position..or even a senior management..but not safety degree..u will never reach a senior management with a safety degree..

Wah~~~then i consider exceptional case liao. Coz in my corporate ladder.....above me only 1 CEO....all the GMs at my business units look at my face. I manage all the GMs......i consider senior management??

I tend to support cstay66... Aircraft, Listen up no one & i MEAN NO one Will want to take your what so ever 2cent or 2dollars view.. You just been irritating and annoying!!!! WSH line won't stand such as personnel as you.. So please shut down your computer , Stop reading & go have your breakfast... ALRIGHT?

Haha, be pro leh bro! stay cool! heh! ;)

My main agenda for coming in here is to ask if anyone here as taken the confined space safety assessor course conducted by NTUC…it’s it difficult?. It’s a four days course with a written exam… the word “EXAMS” really give me the creeps man…Anyone wishes to shine some light on my question?

Heard that NTUC not easy to pass. Previously sent my guys to take....minimum fail once. Got 1 even more super, fail 3 times. When I took it several years back, it is already not easy. Guess it just becomes more difficult.
