My portion of not removing the helmet, was from some medical advise read some long time ago, I think on this forum too. I think the logic has more to do with, removing the helmet, means removing the pressure that is holding the swelling of the brain that it wont stop.

Much like how nurses dont take off your pants for an unconsious victim. They simply scissors them off at the emergency bed. They even can saw off the helmets.

I am reviving this thread on account of the gory pictures that was circulated on the internet due to the 2 boys bicycle and cement truck accident.

Please be mindful of your pictures you take. DO NOT. and I will always repeat. DO NOT CIRCULATE OR SHOW GORY PICTURES.

Yes, we appreciate pictures that tell us stories or give us a clue as to what happened. But those pictures with brains splattered anywhere, DO NOT SHOW to anyone unless its to the Police Officers that is handling the case. The members of families will ask to see pictures, but thats for them to ask.

And if possible, do not move the vehicles or persons unless necessary. I mean necessary, as in that the victim might be further ran over, or there is further danger.

One time an uncle self skidded at a zebra crossing. My first reaction was to cross over. Turn off the ignition switch and checked the uncle. One bunch of clueless teenagers was shouting for all of us to move away because the bike leaked petrol on the road. I left the bike where it was because it formed a barrier against cars that might unknowingly hit onto me and the uncle on the tarmac.

The silly girl tried to position herself in between the bike and me....citing that we should move in case the bike explode. Trying to act hero.

I answered her loudly with. As long as no one is smoking and dump a lighted flame onto the petrol/bike. It will not catch fire or explode.

So yes.......if you must smoke a cigarette any accident scene. Do be considerate. The Victim will appreciate fresh air instead of your ciggies smells to get over the trauma too.

Please make sure you are safe too.

I know its a freaking old thread.

But just to add. Sometimes, the victims is conscious and walking around, maybe with just bruises for show and even speaking.

But it likely will have some form of shock or trauma which is not manifesting so readily. You will be lucky with one that is looking and awake. Or maybe just very quiet.

I was told, at my accident in Mersing Malaysia. I was fairly talkative. Keep repeating...."how did it happened?" while holding my broken wrist. I kid you not that I have no recollection. I only remember being in a bad mood at Gelang Petah Petrol Station, and next is I woke up in a hospital bed. And apparently, I rode pillion thoughout the journey from Mersing Malaysia to Singapore, crossing the custom being awake and upright in the seat.

And another note from being at Pulau Ubin recently.

Where a father probably felt he could carry his son better, across the jetty to the awaiting emergency boat. he had clutched at his boy's broken arm.

In the end, I took over by scooping my arms under the boys elbow and supported him down a jetty. And a Coast Guard Officer scoop him under his arm too and bring onto the boat.

Most times, its not necessary to carry any victim. Just provide support will do.

And no doubt its kinda embaressing where its a stranger, be it male or female. As long as you are not purposely trying to molest the victim by gripping the neh neh or the balls. Dont be shy!

I so far been always making a joke about it, where I need to flip any guys shirt, to loosen the pants/belt or to feel for broken ribs. I always prep whoever I have to touch. "Ok, I am going to start molesting you."

If the victim is conscious and not much in shock. He/she will respond with trying to laugh. if the person is silent or not even tracking his/her eyeballs on me. I know for a start, there is some shock/trauma.

And keep talking to the victim and have the victim answer to whoever is talking to him/her. Even if you know the victim, please do not answer for him.

Eg.....I already know the kid is how old and already deduced he should be Pri 3. I will ask a bit of stupid question. Like "How old are you?" "10 years old arh." "So you are in Pri Two iszit?"

Let the kid answer himself.
