Hi everyone,

have a newbie question here.

what is the correct way of adjusting the mirrors? what i mean is are both mirrors suppose to be able to see vehicles at an angle behind of you? or directly behind you? or one mirror each?

thanks!

Hmm...I remembered what they taught at BBDC (where I first took my 2B), the instructors were saying to adjust the mirrors so that the edge of your shoulders could be seen peeking out of the inner corner of the mirrors. So far, after changing 2 bikes, it has worked very well for me. Allowing me to evade reckless speeders by spotting them behind. More importantly, allowing for safe lane changes which coupled with blind spot checks and proper signalling will never cause you to go wrong.

Mirrors are supposed to be placed so that you can have a view of whose behind you at the moment, on your left or your right. I don't think you could adjust them so that you could see what is directly behind you....cause you are blocking the view.

Just adjust them so you could have the maximum exposure of the view behind.

I don't even use mirrors because I can't even see using the ones on my bike. I check my blindspot more often than others though, gonna get Koso ones soon.

You're endangering others on the road.

Too true! Too many times have I seen bikes without mirrors gotta dodge fast on-coming vehicles only at the last minute. Changing lanes without proper signalling and almost getting to accidents. It's really sad, if they just remove the mirrors for the sake of looking "cool". Haven't they heard of Rizoma?

Mirrors are a integral part of the bike and part of our personal safety regime. If you don't take care of yourself on the road, who will? Better replace as soon as possible

Ya got mirrors what's the point of checking your blindspots right?

That is a terrible mindset! Checking mirrors and blindspots are 2 different things. In the driving centres, instructors throughout the years have been reminding young riders to check their blind spots AND mirrors. There is no "OR".

Blindspots are areas where your mirrors cannot cover and when your peripheral vision cannot detect. That is why the need to turn your head and see at any objects that might block your way is of utmost importance. The likely-hood of getting into an accident when the vehicle is just right beside you when you perform a lane change is almost a certainty. Typical, these "blindspot" areas are just to your left and right.

Mirrors covers the general area behind you so you can anticipate any changes from the back. To provide you with the visual information of vehicular traffic and speed behind you as well as providing you with ample time to make your proper lane change.

Bo pian, get bike mirrors like that. That's why I said needed to change to Koso, more adjustable.

The only way to see the mirrors is to tuck in GP style, then can see but if I'm in that position, don't have to see mirrors already.

After accident, rebuilt the outlook, before was already using SP mirrors, that time they ask want to use SP or ori mirrors, I just said SP but they placed it way too low.

Koso oso not that expensive, looks neater as well. For the moment, I practice quick blindspot checking, make sure whatever in front is still within safe following distance.

thanks guys. now i get it that the mirrors are to see one lane to the right and left each while covering a part of my shoulder.

what about my own lane at the back? so the mirrors are not suppose to cover the area behind (which is the area cover by a car rear mirror)

i find the most dangerous thing for bike is vehicles which are following behind, especially at a high speed like on express way or peak hour traffic. Any ideas and suggestions how to watch out for those?

thanks guys!

You filter, some drivers here quite fked up, tailgate for god knows what. That's why when I notice some vehicle tailgate me, i surge and filter ahead and find myself a nice spot again or i purposely slowdown and make space for myself.

Given that the mirrors have a wide range view behind you and that cars have such a wide body, I'm sure you could see their headlights peeking out from your mirrors. They can't hide behind something small like a bike.

Try positioning your mirrors as stated above posts. You'll see what I meant.

If your backlight is HID, also can, put camera behind as well :D

Put warning sign, 'If you can read this, you're tailgating, this camera is watching you'

Changing lane and giving way also

Posted

sorry what is HID? most of the time i will try to give way.. make sure there is the safety area surrounding me. But what about peak hours where the traffic is practically everywhere?

Posted

High intensity something.

Change lane and give way if can, unfortunately 90% of the time I ride in searing heat, heavy traffic and I can still shake head to the impatient drivers at traffic lights. They got aircon and shelter, I only got my helmet and office wear huhuhu
