Anyone had experience with yellow goo from CDI box? Bike is CB400 PB1.

only noticed it recently, the trail getting longer and longer. I've been reading, some say leave it its ok, some say put silicone in the gaps, some say replace cdi....

"What say you?"

thanks

I had a really strange feeling reading your post, because I encountered the exact same thing from my bike, a CB750.

The previous owner had told me that he wrapped the ignition controller module in plastic because he wanted to water-proof it. When I went to cut open the plastic wrapping, lots and lots of sticky yellow goo flowed out. I couldn't believe the amount of goo there was and it dripped everywhere, on the shocks, on the rear wheel, on the compartment which housed the module, etc.

Took me a really long time and a lot of cloth and acetone to clean the mess up.

I don't know if the sealing substance is some packing/anti-vibration material that came from the factory and somehow deteriorated and melted, or if some snake-oil salesman/mechanic convinced someone to put it in there.

It doesn't seem to hurt anything though. The module still works fine, so if it bothers you just open it up and take a long time to clean it all up like I did.

i tink its a standard thing they use inside the cdi. my old cbr400 had that issue too.
