setup: TV outlet to SCV cable modem, then to WRT54G Linksys wireless router

problem faced now; 1 desktop w/ USB Linksys Wireless WR54V4 network adapter and 1 notebook with PCMCIA Dlink WI Fi card

surfing with notebook no problem, but surfing with desktop is a big problem

i have excellent signal strength, but "limited connectivity" ,

downloading speed is 1kb n below, distance less than 5metres

for a start, try connecting the desktop to the router via network cable. should the surfing speed be deemed normal, then u can safely isolate the problem to the wireless connectivity issue.

if its the wireless issue, u might need to provide more configuration details.

May I know more about the connections.

SCV Point -> Cable Modem -> Use LAN Cable not USB -> Linksys Router.

Restart the cable modem. Should be able to work. You should get everything up and running. I hope. Do tell the outcome.
