for me, i used before motul 300v 10-40 and maxima extra 4 5w-40.

my phantom seems to have less vibration with maxima, and lasts for longer intervals.

both 40 weight oils give the bike a lighter feeling, due to lower viscosity.

February 2011 - March 2012 = Phantom TA 200

March 2012 - August 2013 = Suzuki Impulse 400

Present = BMW (Bus, MRT, Walk)

both is top notch oil. it doesn't matter which one is Patriot or scud missile if you goal is just to kill a fly trapped in a bottle isn't it:) you can't go wrong with either of those. just choose one you have better access to or cheaper price.

thx buddies.

for my case, previous owner of my new bike uses maxima for oil change everytime while i have always preferred motul since my 2A days...

wondering if it's ok for the bike to jus switch to motul when i go for my servicing or I should simply stick with maxima for the bike.

how bout oil filter? recommended to be changed too right??

shouldnt matter as long as youre not switching between types ie semi-syn and fully syn.

since 2b days til now ive almost always used motul 300v

it totally fine to make the switch if your posion is motul. somehow, i will pick redline motorcycle oil out of the 3 if you want some ester based juice. just a personal option.

if you do not know when did the previous make the last oil filter change, it will be better to change it just in case.

yeah, the key issue is how often you change the oil. rather than brand.

regular changing of regular oil is better than dragging out and only changing EO when it is beyond its service interval.

Very true. :) I'm using Maximma, seems smooth.

I love riding. :cheeky:

Just change engine oil every 1500km~2500km. Any oil will have no problem.

Change cheap oil every 2000km is better than change expensive oil every 3000km.

not exactly if you are talking about extended OCI. one of the advantage of synthetic is longer OCI. the problem is we do not know how long is too long.

Tried both. It really depends on how the bike will react to the oil. For my bike, Maxima is smoother and lasts longer before it starts to feel 'rough'. For example, Shell mineral oils feels damn good on my bike as compared to semi Moutul, on par with Maxima semi. Ah Boy UNCLUBE feels the same as Semi Moutul but doesnt last long.

Whatever is is, my bike tends to feel rougher after 1500k/if never change oil for 2 months plus, whatever the oil i put inside. From the water vapour in the engine, i also dunno. Oil always comes out black as hell and is super thin, regardless of what kind of oil i put inside. Put in thick, come out, always watery. Question is, how long it takes to become watery.

Thinning of engine oil can only happen if it comes into contact with petrol... either through the piston rings or an overflowing carb, very remote but possible.

If the oil comes out thin.. its either you overused its service life or its a lousy oil that loses its viscosity fast.

Hmm... Before and after top overhaul, also the same thing. The oil just comes out thin and watery.

with my 2b bikes same thing too. Perhaps because only 1L is going through the system.

My shadow vlx recommends a change at 12k and i remembered my phantom was half of that. Not that i do but a point to pounder on.

Good oil is cheap insurance for your engine (:
