How do you envision the installation will be like?

FYI... IF your bike can be retrofitted with electric start, you will need at least the following:

- wire harness

- battery

- starter motor

- starter clutch

- new crank case to accommodate all the necessary starter gears

There are e-start kits for bikes like XR650R, XR400. But installation is a very complicated process at the best of times.

Get your bike's carb setup properly, and it should start easily. Else, just buy an E-start bike.

Past: KDX200, LC4 400, LC4 620, GSXR750WR

Present: CBR900RRY, Gas Gas EC250, XR250L, XR250RV, XR400 (motard-ed), NX650 Dominator

i have not much knowledge abt engine but is it possible to just get an electronic ignition and wire it to the starter motor.

Im just worried if it stalls in the middle of traffic and i have a hard time to kick start it

Any idea who have done the E-start for Xr 400?

I don't think anyone in SG has done this.

Yeah same here, just trying my luck here.

One of the flaws personally coming from me for an X4 400

The only problem with all XRs is that they are designed to seek out the most inappropriate places to stall e.g. side of hills, stuck in mud, stuck in ditch, stuck in sand, surrounded by mosquitos.

Other times, starts 1 kick.

But I thought you love such challenges.

If that's not tough enough, how about installing a kick starter for my car:angel:

This has reminded me a classmate of mine. In the 80s, he asked me whether he can just buy a keyboard and plug it into his home TV to turn it to a PC :thirsty:

That's AJ la.

I can definitely help to kick start your car. Will buy a pair of steel-toed safety shoes just for this. Just let me know when.

The worst when your engine stalls on you when your bike was on an uphill lol.

Wearing full gear kicking with that long kickstand is really a challenge, when you are tired and gasping for air.Worst part when your Xr drops and fuel overflow.

Is your battery weak? If your neutral light is faint when you first turn on the ignition, you might want to get the battery replaced. Ask the bike shop to check your rectifier too while they're at it. The bike is harder to kick start if the battery's weak.

If there are no battery issues, just keep practising. Instead of trying to kick start the bike while sitting on it, stand on the right while gripping the handlebars and compressing the brakes, and then try to kick. Whenever you try to start the bike while the engine is cold, stand beside the bike instead of sitting on it while kick starting. It's a lot easier.

Instead of kicking downwards in one swift motion and then letting the kick starter spring back up immediately, press down lightly on the kick starter until you feel a tiny bit of resistance. Hold it there and then give it a hard kick. When you've kicked it all the way to the bottom, hold the kick starter there for a second or two instead of releasing it immediately to give the fuel some time to ignite. Once you've mastered kick starting technique you'll find it very easy.

It's also much easier to kick start the bike when the engine is warm. You shouldn't have as much trouble kick starting the bike while sitting on it if your bike stalls at a traffic light since your engine will still be warm. When you stop at a petrol kiosk, practise kick starting the bike while on it. Do the same thing when you're parking at home. Turn off the ignition and practise kick starting with a warm engine.

I think it's easier to install a kickstart than to install the magic button. I think you'll get used to kickstarting your bike after a while, everyone does :p
