My preference in sequence order: (1)BMC (2)PiperCross (3) KNN

Who the hell will vote for Stock filter????? haha

Many aftermarket filters let in more dirt than OEM filters. The dirt enters through the intake valves into the combustion chamber. Now imagine a fine layer of grit coating the cylinder walls as your piston rings rub it back and forth. It will accelerate the wear of the bore, causing scratches that lead to poor ring seal, eventually leading to oil consumption and lost HP.

I was advise by a knowledgeable person, so i dun see its a joke for ppl who vote 4 stock.(no offend) Hope to share the knowledge with u guys out there....

Anyway, we r lookin for improvements to our bikes.

Cheers & enjoy ridding.

jus DIY changed my air filter bros....stock air filter still looks clean, but since i bought a new orig oem honda air filter, might as well jus change..

however when i diy my bro's vtec(using kNN), the chamber where the airfilter is slotted into was splattered with oil........a very big difference from mine (using oem air filter)..so he changed back to oem air filter as well ...

=)

I wander what's the mesh size of the stock air filter vs the KNN 's mesh size. I didn't really thought about it till after reading this thread. The mesh size of the filter are supposed to be indicated on the packaging. If its same size , then its safe to use the KNN or BMC or whatever. No grit will pass through.

Mesh size can help to compare the opening sizes of the holes on the filters.

Why I prefer KNN? Coz there is greater air flow at high rpm; I confirmed that during a dyno. During the dyno, at high rpm >9000, my S4 's exhaust CO is comparatively lower than a R1 , even when the R1 has fuel injection but no KNN. This means better fuel economy. No wander my FC at below 100km/hr is same as > 140km/hr.

the mesh of knn filter is bigger as it is made of sponge

whereas oem filter are make of paper like material

which explain the higher flow rate. also knn make use of the oil to trap the dust etc which is why u need to clean is too

for those bros who are curious, take a look at the pic i attached.

it's an oem air filter and a KNN air filter...side by side...

mudman: Thks bro! Great pic over there. I've not seen any OEM or K&N air filters before, coz I got a K&N air filter fixed on before collecting my bike from shop. Hmm.. Seems as though OEM air filter has a better design? =P

i like the fact that a lot of the dust from the road is being trapped inside the OEM filter bro , will take a pic of the used OEM filter tonite and show u. i have never changed my filter since i got my bike in aug 05 and i am amazed at how clean and dry the whole chamber is ........=)

IMO and for me, I do really need. Unless if I go play track den I guess I don't really need. :thumb:

I thought a thought. But the thought I thought wasn't the thought I thought I thought. If the thought I thought I thought had been the thought I thought, I wouldn't have thought so much.

i think you are wrong.. K&N and BMC filter uses mesh/paper material, but washable.. they advise to air dry instead of blow dry because blow dry may damage the filter..

only pipercross filter uses sponge/foam and washing wise, smae as K&N and BMC.. no to blow dry also..

I've used K&N and pipercross before.. when K&N installled, sound more 'garang' and louder, airflow wise better than OEM.. when installed Pipercross, sound soften and airflow was much better than K&N.. to a certain extend, air flows in too much.. thus making pickup a little retarded..

why ppl buy reusable filter..? because they are washable and reusable.. whereas OEM ones are not.. price of changing the OEM filter compared to washing and maintaining the aftermarket ones is relatively higher..

furthermore, aftermarket filters allows more air to flow, thus improving a bit of performance..

the downside of aftermarket filters would be the tuning and washing of carbs may need to be done more frequently..

just my 2cents..

which part of my post is incorrect?

pls see HERE.

btw how can foam "flow" better then "A K&N Air Filter is made of 4 to 6 layers of cotton gauze sandwiched between two epoxy-coated aluminum wire screens."

original sentence by me:

the mesh of knn filter is bigger as it is made of sponge

whereas oem filter are make of paper like material
