Faulty IU Unit

Hi all,

 

I am having a problem this morning when I insert my cash card into the IU unit, the there was not beep sound and display. But I insert my cash card into one of the bikes' IU unit that parked beside me, it works !!! I've bought the bike 2nd hand from the owner for not even a month. It must have been faulty due to the heavy rain last Sunday.

 

I read the forum as as mentioned that I need to get it inspected and change it if it is faulty at VICOM or STA. Some of the people in the forum also mentioned that we can ride the bike even the IU unit is faulty but I am worried that I will get fined for that.

 

Can someone advice me what is the best solution to resolve the faulty IU unit as the bike is bought 2nd hand and the bike is more than 5 years old since it's registered in June 2007. I would also like to know whether I should still ride the bike even though the IU unit is faulty. Am really confused and right now. I seldom ride the bike but when I am anxious to ride it this morning, things like these happens. So sad..... So emo....

the iu unit should be spoilt.. too much voltage i guess.. you got to change it already.. it's ok to ride w/o an iu unit.. but if u have to go a gantry place or erp.. it will be a hassle. have to avoid this avoid that..

go to your bike shop. maybe the wiring.

They may have 2nd hand Iu units too if you are on a budget.

I feel that vicom are pushing you to buy the new ones all the time.

Bike registered in June 2007, meaning less than 5 year old. So your IU is still under warranty. Go to any inspection centre and have it checked/changed.

Hi all, Thanks for all the comments. If I would ride my bike to the VICOM, what happens when I pass thru to the ERP ? I will still get the summon right ? And still need to pay 10 bucks and the ERP charges. What a fine country SG is.....

i dunno u guys got experience that or not..but thats nonsense..ive ride thru erp gantries twice when my iu unit is down..dont worry, u wont get saman, what u get it a letter for iu inspection..just put ur card in the iu even if its not working and ride thru..i just change my iu 2 days ago because the first time repair last for a few months then kaput again..if its less than 5 years, 1-1 free xchange..u only get saman if they detect the iu then no card inside to deduct..dun worry abt it..cheers

If your IU unit more than 5 year no warranty. If less than 5 year is FOC to change to new.

Even if your ERP spoil still can ride thru ERP. Dont worry nothing will happen. Because in 1~2 week you will received a letter from LTA to bring your bike to inspection center to check IU unit. No need pay fine. Just need to pay the ERP grantry fee.

If your UI unit less than 5 year just will just change FOC for you. And if no warranty they will ask you want to change or not. You can choose not to replace and they will tell you not to enter ERP.
