We just had a metric cruisers meet up today

close to 15 bikes from singaporebikes went to kota tinggi,

A brand new shadow is about 17k... so with the coe high now is 19k.

New shadow less powerful but the fuel consumption is better.

Dual pipes.

Market price should be about 4k for a used shadow hahaha.

Hi Hydher, can you please advise which dealer sell new shadow/steed now? I don't seem to find any info on internet or forums.

For 4k used shadow, I assumed it should be around 199x, given my situation (see above post in this thread - just not to repeat it here again), is it good and easy for me to maintain and ride? As a starter, ideally I would like to get a used bike to try first but just worry about the maintenance/servicing issues. In addition, I am not sure if I am confident I know what/how to check a used bike when buying...

Hope you can give me some advise. Thanks a lot.

ps. will definitely join you guys for trip if I am managed to get my cruiser. Cheers.

Thanks a lot for the info, Coyote66. Will keep that option open while researching more on used bikes. As this is my first bile (and intention to go Class 2 after one year), would prefer to get a used bike for now. If I understand correctly, the depreciation for new bike is much higher than the used bike. But if I really not confident in getting a used bike, then new bike is the way to go for me. Thanks again.

Buying a used bike is always a risk.

You have to do your best to calculate it.

For me, i request politely for a test ride, start the bike up from cold, rev the bike up to 100+km/hr, do braking, short free hand riding. If its all good, ill haggle a little and pay the deposit.

A scooter and a cruiser are the most comfortable on the road.

If you are comparing between a cb400x and shadow 400.

Both are reliable.

Cb400x is a mini adventure bike while shadow 400 is a mini cruiser lohhh

But....... a new sportster 883 isnt price too far apart from the shadow 400 if you are ever considering

Bros, may gathered your experience with the shadow 400. Like max speed, pickup, maintenance, fuel consumption. ..etc.. I'm thinking if I should get a shadow or a cb400x.

Max speed about 140-160km/hr. Early pick up like sonata taxi. After 65km/hr will lose to the sonata taxi.

FC 20-22km/L. Oil 2.2-2.6L. Oil filter 12k km change. 4 spark plugs 12k km change. A pair of shinko rubbers est $250. A pair of bridgestones, dunlop etc est $320? Full tank with reserve about 300km.

About new shadow. Try to enquire at bike productions, mah motor, global motor, de xing motors and around southern motors shop as mentioned by the bro here.

Thanks for the reply, Hydher.

883 is not for me now as I just gotten my 2A license. Intend to get class 2 a year later.

A friend recommended a reliable workshop in Defu Lane. The boss first show me a S4 version S. Looks good and only $3500 (with 3 years coe left). But find it too "sporty" look and prefer cruiser. Later he called and said that his friend got a rarely used Steed 400 (but strange that the tank there prints Shadow), coe expiring soon (about 20 years old bike). He can sell me at $5500 with a new 10 years coe. Some parts of the bike is a little rusty but he said he will clean it up for me. I can't test ride now because of the battery. He needs sometime to get it fixed for me to test ride.

If test ride is okay, I think the price quoted seems reasonable given that new coe already cost 4500. May spend a little to make it look nicer is all is good.

If it didn't really work out later, can just scrap and get the coe back. Not very high risk seem to me.

What do you think of the deal?

Thanks again.

Yes, you're right. Thanks for the reminder. Renew COE is moving average of the last 3 months CEO. So for May 2014, it is $3,973, if April 2014, then $3,256.

the spare parts is relative to quality. good quality lesser servicing, so if you calculate by the km travelled per repair cost, it's still affordable actually. 2x kymco owned.

An ex owner of Kymco Downtown here, and i need to speak out.

Spare parts are indeed more expensive than similar scoots, and servicing interval is still the same.

New Kymco-BMW developed engines need time to prove its reliability. Was riding a 125cc Downtown. So parts did not have to deal with high stresses. But had heard larger cc scoot had oil leaks, burnt clutch bell, etc.

Wanted to target the MyRoad700i when i first saw the scoot. Am holding back now. Not sure if I wanna go back to Taiwanese, but am still keeping my options open as Kymco design i must say is FUNTASTIC!!!

Hope this helps.
