What bike are you riding? Can check the jettings pins if they're worn out, broquet or fuel saver additive might help alittle! The best is to ride your bike gently :thumb:

TS, i think u mean u want to decrease FC instead of increase right.... hahaha..

A few general tips that might probably help with getting better FC:

1. Like what one of the forumers mentioned, wrist management.. Don't always open throttle so much, don't drag gears, just let ur rpm climb up smoothly and change gears before ur engine is screaming. In other words don't use aggressive riding style. In the long run it will not only save on ur FC, it will help save on alot of premature wear & tear as well.

2. Keep ur tyres properly inflated. Under-inflated tyres will cause ur bike to lose power which will lead to ur FC going up. Additionally it will also cause ur tyres to wear prematurely.

3. Check ur chain slack, if ur bike is chain-driven. Loose chain will cause both ur bike responsiveness and power to drop, leading to FC going up also. It will also cause jerky acceleration, and on some occasions the chain might come off the sprocket while riding, which is very dangerous.

4. Check that ur wheel bearings are fine. Spoiled bearings may cause the wheel to not spin smoothly, which can also cause FC to go up (more power needed to get the wheels to spin). I had this problem before, and i understand it may not be noticeable.

5. Avoid carrying too many unnecessary things in ur boxes, as the extra weight may cause ur FC to be bad.

6. Try to use expressway more than normal roads. Cruising will save more fuel than all the constant stopping & moving off. Just make sure u don't kena ERP and in the end u are paying more than u save.. :cheeky:

7. Using thinner engine oil will make ur FC better (e.g. grade 40 instead of 50), but this is highly subjective to ur personal preference, what kind of bike u are riding, how old ur bike is, etc.

8. Huge windshields, windshield that is installed improperly (wrong angle), huge side panniers are also possible causes of bad FC. However aerodynamics should only be significant if u are travelling at higher speeds.

If ur FC is really so bad until u cannot manage ($$$), then maybe changing to a more fuel economic bike would be a better solution...

You know how i increase my fuel consumption? Rex the damn thing and change gear just before readline, accelerate and brake like a mad man, drag gears non stop, carry unnecessary weight and pump V-Power.

Confirm fuel consumption will increase significantly.

I feel FC no point in trying to find ways to improve, because its too much effort. I keep trying to stay on expressway and maintaining 80kmh, don't ride it too hard, and i shift gears as efficiently as i can, and my FC barely improves from 38KML to 39KML.

I think FC is inherently built into machine one, want better FC might as well buy a kapchai.

Actually, u have a point.. Sometimes i can't help but feel that way too :cheeky:

But there are people who believe in "sedikit sedikit, lama lama jadi bukit".. Save abit here and there, add up becomes alot! Especially for some bikes, those that have a difference of more than 3 or 4 km/litre between whack and don't whack, in the long run can actually add up to quite abit of money (thanks to expensive fuel prices in singapore)...

But still.. personally i share the same thinking as u.. Want to ride, ride to ur heart's content, why let power go to waste because u want to save some dollars of fuel, might as well get a smaller/more fuel efficient bike! :thumb:

Cause to me its like, if i can bear to spend so much money to buy a sports car, why cant i bear to spend money on petrol, makes no sense. You can't have your cake and eat it at the same time.

Likewise, you cannot expect to buy a Busa (i know im exaggerating) and want to have 50KML. The dollars and cents u save here and there may end up pretty big if u calculate over the course of a year topping up petrol, but the amount is so negligible u might as well spend the time u used thinking of ways to improve FC to get a job and earn more money lor.

PS: Best FC is still to just ride bicycle lah.

Oh one more thing.

Fuel Consumption = How much fuel is consumed.

Fuel Efficiency = How efficient a vehicle is.

High fuel consumption vs. Low fuel consumption.

Improve/ Better fuel consumption = Increased or more fuel being consumed.

High fuel efficiency = How efficient a vehicle consumes fuel.
