Current TE is also tubeless fyi.

But it's running on sports rim instead of tubeless spokes.Even e spokes rim on e XC requires a tube.

Yamaha TZM 150

Suzuki DRZ 400

Honda CB 400

Yamaha FZ 1

Hi,

I owned the launch model for slightly more than a month and had clocked almost 3000km. Allow me to give a short review/comparison on it since i did own a GSA for 2yrs and 4mths (49+K km), to be fair.

Suspension:- It certainly loses to the GSA. Nothing beats having the para- and tele-lever types of suspension. They certainly make a lousy rider (read: me) looks like a seasoned rider. Whilst going up Fraser/Cameron, the "dive" during hard-braking can be felt on the TE, while on the GSA, the bike barely dived.

Fuel consumption:- Clocking ard 16km/L during local riding with its 20L tank. Tank is rather small, so can't really pump song song gao jurong when filling up in Msia. Same FC as the GSA. Reaching Ayer Keroh as a first stop isnt much of an issue.

Power:- The figures dont lie. The 135hp can certainly be felt. Of course, its more powerful than the other 110hp beast. Top-end power is very much available with the TE, where it lacked in the GSA. But to be fair, this is characteristic of all in-line engine bikes (top-end power delivery) and not boxers.

Weight:- The CG of the GSA is certainly felt at a lower position than the TE when making a turn/cornering.

Features:- Cruise-control, traction control (switchable), tire-pressure monitoring system, ABS (switchable) came with the bike.

Comfort:- Plush seat but the standard is a bit lower than the GSA. I am only 180cm in height, hence i ordered the "high" seat but it has yet to arrive.

The launch model came with certain features/accessories that are termed as extras. I got the touring screen, engine crash bars, aluminium sump guard, fog-lights, handle-bar protectors and the tire-pressure monitoring system. I dont tink i missed anything out from here.

I got the headlight protector for free.

My 3 boxes which i ordered from Chiap Lee have yet to arrive. I didnt go with the OEM boxes, but instead decided on the alu Trax (SW-Motech).

Bro so ur overall verdict is the explorer better than the GSA?

sorry bro, as much as I would like to, I can't give an overall preference to these 2 beasts.

No worries..cos i dunno what to get.there's a lot of hype saying that the explorer is a GS killer..so the best ppl to review are those who have owned both..

if ur a sucker for good suspension... then the GSA cd be to your liking... else things like higher hp, longer service interval (16000km) might appeal to you...

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of getting a Triumph Explorer 1200 after missing from bike scene for 8 years. I heard there is a 2013 model.

1. May I know roughly how much it cost?

2. How about the maintenance? Is it expensive and do we really have to go back to Mah Motor?

3. My intend is to ride in Singapore and occasionally to NS highway in Malaysia. Is it 'overpower' to ride in Singapore?

4. How about squeezing between traffic with or without side boxes?

Sorry about these stupid questions. Thanks!

Its abt $40k otr if i'm not mistaken

cant decide which to get... 800XC or Explorer 1200

I have the same dilemma as you. I cant decide which to choose. I test rode the tiger 800 today. I'm very comfortable with the ride. I have yet to test ride the 1200 coz my aim is the 800 tiger intially.

My concern is that i will use the bike for work everyday and maybe occasionally up North. As SG road is always jam, I'm concern if I can squeeze between the cars with the 1200cc. Cost is another issue. One is 26k+ and the other 40K+. My other friends told me that I'll sure upgrade to a higher cc bike once I'm bored with the 800cc. This is my another concern whether I would change to a bigger bike next time. If what they say so is correct, I might as well get the 1200cc and ride for the next 10 years.

Hi bro ,

E cost is always a factor in choosing a bike . If ur pockets are slightly deeper . . . . I suggest e 1200cc !! Morning traffic in spore wif e big side boxes gonna be a nightmare in e beginning but after awhile . . . . u get used to it . Some of them will remove e side boxes n just used e top box . Shd be sufficient oredi .

U sure u wanna ride it for 10 yrs ?? Maybe after 3 yrs ur backside will get itchy oredi . . . . hàhaha !!

Just my humble thoughts . . . . Happy New yr !!

Hi Mac77.

Thank you for your inputs. I guess you own a 1200cc TE. Can you tell me how easy or difficult to squeeze in between cars with or without side boxes? I tried the BMW GS1200, I should say it was pretty hard for me.

Hi, Same situation like you. I scare if i buy 800xc will itchy backside and upgrade to a bigger CC bike. But, cost wise i think the 800xc should be just nice for me. GS is out of the league as its too expensive.

My wife asked me to take the TE1200 since I'm gonna stick this bike for the next 10 years (I am still considering). I tried to sit on the 800XC and I have to tip toe (I'm 1.78m) so the XC is not for me. It's either TE 1200 or 800.

I tried the BMW GS, the vibration when stationary turns me off. However, the engine was smooth when I moved off. The maintenance cost also turns me off.

And if u intend to really do off-road trails, get the 800XC. For miles-crunching trip/touring on tarmac most of the time , get the TE1200.

most likely is tarmac/touring to the north.....
