no way his going for CRT man. in term of reputation, it worst than satellite team.

and honda CRT is using a lower end replicator of the current RC213V or older RC212V. they dont benefit from rossi development skill at all. either rossi replace stoner (which i dont think so since they have marq in mind) or go back yamaha since ben spies perform badly this season, or dorna will pyscho audi to do some major change for ducati bike

I've the greatest respect for the doctor. But right now Moto 2 has the most exciting riders in Espargaro the younger, Marquez, Iannone and Luthi. I hope these guys can challenge the dominance of Lorenzo in the near future.

So sad, I like Spies. He's very good at SBK. Bagged it in his 1st season.

Dunno why but it seemed easier for the MotoGP stars to adapt and shine at SBK than vice versa.

Examples are Max Biaggi, Carlos Checa & Marco Melandri from MotoGP to SBK while from SBK to MotoGP, examples are Ben Spies, Colin Edwards & to a certain extent Troy Bayliss (although he participated in MotoGP in just a few races).

obviously i have never in MotoGP / SBK so don't question my credentials :cheeky:...

but from what i have read & understand from the interviews of the pro racers themselves is that the MotoGP bikes are very different from SBK bikes. the differences are as follows:-

1) MotoGP bikes are being set up very differently & require a very specific kind of approach to riding it ( examples given by them was that the braking on MotoGP is extremely hard & you haveto brake very much later & harder than SBK bikes ). They have to overcome & go against their natural instinct honed from experience from riding race bikes & street bikes ( if you use the MotoGP "style" on street bikes, you will definitely crash, in a way MotoGP riding style is NOT transferable anywhere else ). many racers from SBK switching to MotoGP faced this "mental" difficulty to "unlearn" their skills to adapt. whereas MotoGP riders switching to SBK finds it easier cause it is ""going back" to doing it in a more "natural" way, closer to what they do on other race bikes or what we do on the streets.

2) MotoGP bikes require much more physical fitness to ride. See the difference in average age of success in the 2 different competitions. John Hopkins' wrists could not survive Sepang last season, but he was back in BSB last year even when he has not fully recovered! Max Biaggi won SBK at 39 when L. Caprirossi was retiring in MotoGP at 38. SBK is also very physically demanding in fitness obviously but MotoGP is a different level.

3) SBK bikes are closer to the production bikes, easier to ride & also easier to "Set-Up" / "adjust" by the engineers. MotoGp bikes being prototypes are more "difficult". the "margin for errors" are much smaller.

4) The "knowledge" power of the MotoGP factory teams ( especially Honda & Yamaha ) makes it extremely difficult for the satellite teams. Some satellite teams are making times now that will win last season but they are way slower than the factory teams this season. In addition, the satellite teams may get the "same" bike as the factory teams in the start of the season & "in theory" start on a level footing but as the season progresses, usually the satellite teams are unable to keep up with the improvements on the same bike made by the factory teams. the factory teams DO HAVE the BEST technical teams. This means only riders on factory teams have a realistic chance of winning the MotoGP title.

5) The financial muscle of MotoGP factory teams especially HRC is astonishing. HRC were heavily criticized for spending US$50 million last season to make Honda's bikes so dominant last season. other teams can have only a fraction of that budget ( some of them can only spend what Honda spent on their "special" transmission system ( widely viewed as the Key to their sucess )ALONE! o_O This was why cost cutting measures were introduced this year to discourage over spending.

there was a lot of pre-season "political fighting" between HRC & Dorna / FIM / other teams over rule changes. Stoner openly stated he is against the changes at the end of last season when they were being proposed. Stoner then went on this year to announce his surprise early retirement this year. many speculate that his move COULD BE due to his unhappiness over Dorna's introducing changes to the competition in hope of a more "level" playing field, Dorna / FIM citing financial viability & spectator interest as main reasons. Obviously HRC is unhappy about all that & threatened to pull out of MotoGP but ultimately did not.

This is a very sensitive issue with people taking different sides. Those for the changes want a more exciting MotoGP for spectators ( many fans say SBK is "closer" & more exciting , similar to Moto2 ) & financially prudence for the long term. Those against it thinks it should be kept a premium competition with "no limits" & if Honda wants to lose so much money, they are entitled to do so. Suzuki, Kawasaki, aprilia thought it is crazy to spend so much & thus pulled out in recent years leaving fewer bikes on the grid. Introduction of CRT this year by Dorna / FIM was done in order to 'fill out' the grid.

there is more but it should be enough for now...

Thanks for the explaination. This is helpful.

I just watched the rerun of yesterday US Grand Prix. This Laguna Seca track is so exciting. The americans knew how to build a proper racing track, unlike those that emphasized on very long straights. The downhill corkscrew was breathtaking.
