Is it still compulsory to display this disc on one's bike. Am asking because nowadays, with computerization, it is so easy to check whether the road tax has been paid. Am I the only one who is not displaying the disc?

I tagged it to my bike's key, I believed many bikers out there do the same too. As long as we can show it to TP or LTA officers when being stopped, it should be okay.

i was once stopped at routine check and did not have my road tax disc or insurance cert. actually, i had my previous year's disc and cert, forgot to replace with latest.

tp simply checked my road tax from their digital records, but they do not keep digital record of insurance. so my road tax was cleared, but i was given a notice to report to any npp/npc with my current insurance cert within 2 weeks, which i did.

no fines or warnings issued to me for failing to produce either document during the routine check.

inspection cert is not necessary because valid road tax and insurance confirm means your vehicle has passed inspection.

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

To renew road tax must have insurance valid for at least 6 mths.. So technically if ur rd tax is valid so is ur insurance but during the spot check n u only haf the rd tax not the insurance u are giving a hard time for the officer to check with their data base tat the insurance covers the correct rider..

Even u are rite.. In a way u give em hard time.. they also give u the hard time..

yes, got road tax means the bike insured. but the insurance is not necessarily under your name. dats why the cert must be produced, but inspection cert no need. the inspection cert is confirm done for the bike listed in road tax and insurance.

bottomline is, technically insurance cert is all you need to avoid extra hassle, and as far as i know it is not a penalty to be found without these documents.

Yup2... Coz i juz recall my fren kena stop by TP.. No bring insurance no bring rd tax but luckily both still valid but the way my fren answer the TP like haolian... So in a way the TP said "u gimme susah.. I also give u susah..".. So he have to produce the docs to the nearest npp or polic post..

But if i remember correctly there is a clause but dont care ah :D so if kena stop n u dont haf those docs juz be polite.. Only it takes more of ur time.. :cheers:

You can find the answer at onemotoring, ask LTA section:

...

Q: Is it an offence for not displaying road tax disc?

A: Singapore-registered vehicles are required to display a valid road tax disc on their windscreen at all times. The registered owner has up to 14 days (excluding Sunday and Public Holiday) from the date the vehicle is registered or last road tax expiry date to display the new road tax disc.

If you do not receive the validated disc 5 working days after renewing your vehicle's road tax online, please contact our customer service officers at 1800-CALL LTA (1800 2255 582).

...

I don't display it on my bike but I store my road tax and a photocopy of my insurance under my seat.

Current Rides:

FEB 07 -> NOV 08 [CBR 150]

AUG 08 -> AUG 12 [XJR400]

It is in the law to display the road tax but surprisingly, no offence if not exhibited.

Issue and exhibition of licences

19.—(1) Every person applying for a vehicle licence shall make such a declaration and furnish such particulars with respect to the vehicle for which the licence is to be taken out or otherwise as may be prescribed.

However, it'll be good for people to carry around their insurance as it is stated in the Law and a offence not to show it to the officer. They are just being nice to let you off sometimes, not a god-given right.

Requirements as to production of certificate of insurance or of security

16.—(1) Any person driving a motor vehicle on a road shall on being so required by a police officer give his name and address and the name and address of the owner of the motor vehicle and produce his certificate.

(2) Any person who fails to comply with subsection (1) shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $500 and, in the case of a second or subsequent conviction, to a fine not exceeding $1,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months.

(3) If the driver of a motor vehicle within 5 days after the date on which the production of his certificate was so required produces the certificate in person at such police office or police station in Singapore as may have been specified by the driver at the time its production was required he shall not be convicted of an offence under subsection (2) by reason only of failure to produce his certificate to the police officer.

Seriously, gahment like to make us put hideous things on the bike: Road tax disc, IU.

Never displayed my road tax disc from day one of riding, but have always kept it under my seat together with insurance cert and log card.

Great feedback. Good idea to carry road tax and insurance somewhere in the bike, and I shall do that in future. Thanks for the helpful replies.
