a jazz fan here, i try to play some jazz with my guitar too but not really gd at it, maybe do some bossa kind of stuff.

been to jazz at south bridge as my fren wanted to intro me some more pple from the music industry (he's inside the scene). not much pple there since it was a thursday night and boy am i glad to be there, the stage was filled with 2 guest artist from japan & USA & they had one of the best pianist/keybrdist & one of the grooviest drummer i ever heard locally. i was really glad my fren took me there & came to know all these fine masters, kekeke, i even had free drinks :p

I really like latin stuff, funk, someting with rhythm, lots of it, u can c my body move everytime when someting gd is on.

got some fav artist like steveie wonder (might be known more of soul rather than jazz), george benson (went to his concert recently & it was happening), al jarreau, antonio carlos jobim, fourplay (their recent album rocks), chick corea, some gd jazz bassist & guitarist

sorry for typing so much cause whenever it comes to music, esp a genre i like, my blood jus goes up & gets me really excited

i prefer more soul, female vocals, not so much for noisy big band jazz.. haha more soothing kind.. like ella fitzgerald

and to shock u guys abit.. u knw the sg gal pamela oei !

she sings jazz damm well.. i am her fan !

i am more supportive of local music actually.. my cousin is a jazz guitarist and double bass player.. just went to uk to study music.. so i try to make it to his performances and i never fail to be in shock every time.. haha..

Shelley Leong from malaysia.. she is pretty awesome as well..

if u like piano kind of jazz. can try bob james, but its not really my cuppa tea. i enjoyed his concert but not for everyday listening..

great stuff guys i'm also a jazz fanatic

redname, gabriel06, thanks for replying,

i (try to) play some jazz guitar too, but still beginner lah. hey you guys have great taste in music man, stevie is genius, benson is a monster, ella is legend, everyone else u guys named, all awesome musicians. local/regional musicians are also really good nowadays, world class.

as for me i listen to everything all styles of jazz and as widely as possible, there's something to learn from every song you listen to! Being a guitarist I tend to listen to lots of jazz guitar, and some of my favourites include pat martino, jim hall, kenny burrell, pat metheny, joe pass, benson, bireli, bickert, wes, etc... also enjoy music by jaco, miles davis, bill evans, also everyone you guys mentioned, argh just too many to name.

you know i think we should gather some day for a chat and if possible jam and make some music!!

gabriel06, please you have to intro your cousin, does he teach jazz guitar?

hi ermm.. i dun think he teaches jazz, but perhaps if ur his friend he could teach u a thing or two...

but sad to say he is going of to UK soon and yeah perhaps when he is back..

but i learn a little jazz from his father.. which is pretty good at playing.. but as u know music, there is part talent and if u really wanna be a great musician.. u need to know certain theory as well.. thats y he sent his son to uk.. to kinda realise a dream which he could make come true as he was poorer when young i think..

jamming wise i think i am not up to it :) but i sure can listen jazz over a cuppa nice coffee.. perhaps one of these weekday night we shld pop by jazz at south bridge yeah/??

cheers,

gab

I like jazz too but more towards Latin especially Cuban Jazz.

Stuff from the Beuna Vista Social Club.....lotsa feelings and yet exciting beats.

In fact, 80% of the songs for my wedding were taken from Beuna Vista Social Club Legends like, Omara Portuondo, Ibrahim Ferrer, Reuben Gonzales, Compay Segundo etc.....

nope, care 2 share some pieces by her?

i listen to her short clips on that website.. nothing fantastic really.. abit wannabe i feel...

i support more orginal singers actually, those who mingle well with the crowd rather den setting themselves "one level higher"...

thats wat makes or breaks a live performer i feel.. the ability to stimulate and draw the crowd's attention and intrest.. even if the singer cracks a dumb hockien joke or something i feel its better.. but thats my humble opinion..

anyone here care for a un-winding night-out at jazz@south bridge?

i prefer weekday evening after 630pm

i tink wat u r refering to is someone who's able to entertain a crowd.

george benson is someone like tht, his music makes the crowd clap, move & dance by themselves, he doesn't need 2 ask them to do it.

i can go to jazz@south bridge but i wanna c who's playing 1st

Can you recommend a jazz singer whom you described? I'm hunting for one to perform 'Live' for one of my company's gala dinner in April. Have to be good, preferably female, classy & comes with her own band. Even better if she had cut an album.

media corp artiste pamela oei

:)

i dunno how much she is charging but she does love jazz and i do love her lolz..

my all time dream date lolz..

as for how to contact her.. i am sorry i cant help u on that..

but would i be invited for ur company's dinner?

sounds abit desperate but yeah.. i never had the chance to see her perform after that outdoor performance at esplanade.

another group is moodswings.. i have not seen them performed b4 so i cant comment but from the songs in their web, the female vocals seems to be a little on the lean side.. so if your looking for more husky and power.. shes not the kind u should be looking for.. she is pretty easy listening thou..

Moodswings
