1. what to do next? call my insurance company? My insurance is NTUC income fire n theft. So can i claim for my bike?

Seems to me that since the other party is at fault and that probably means you can make a successful third party claim against the other party. In fact, since you do not have comprehensive insurance this is your best course of action. Your TPFT will only help you if the other party makes a claim against you.

You need to inform your insurer about your accident. Since you have more than 3 days MC they will ask you to make your TP report and statement before seeing them to make a GIA report. Some insurers require their insured to go to IDAC. Check with NTUC, they will advice you accordingly.

2. My bike in the traffic police compound, so if i collect it, do i tow it straight to a mechanic?

Your TP IO will give you letter allowing you to take your bike out of the compound once they've processed it. You will have to take it IDAC, a authorized motor shop or your own motor shop depending on your insurer.

In the case of a third party claim the other party's insurer must be informed where the bike is before repairs are started so they can survey the damages independently. If you hire a lawyer they can send this letter for you.

2. Can a lawyer help? How do i get intouch with one? ANy recommendations?

Lawyer can help a great deal. But my advice is only use one if the facts are strongly in you favour because then you can claim your legal fees. Also, lawyers are professionals when it comes to making things thorough and getting you a fair compensation. I can recommend you a lawyer my friends have used. Compared to the lawyer I used I think this chap is more efficient. I'll PM you the contact later.

3. Anyone been thru this situation and how much did u get to claim?

I've been hit by cars four times. Settled privately with all but one cos everything was minor. For the one I claimed against his insurance I got quite good compensation for my minor injuries and damages. A few thousand. But all depends on your injuries. But if u ask me, its blood sweat money. :)

4. Any other advice u could give is very appreciated.

You need to be sure the driver sticks to the facts. And does not lie about the accident. Good if you have witnesses or irrefutable evidence like audio or video recording. Even pictures at the scene help.

Claim might be fast from a few months to a few years. So till then you might have to pay for things out of your own pocket. If you go through a bike shop they are known to settle everything for you but also take a hefty cut of your compensation.

My advice is get your own independent lawyer to handle your claim and only let the motor shop deal with the motorcycle damages.

Hope you and your pillion make a swift and speedy recovery!

Someday, home will be where my front wheel points.
