The wiring problem, i was fiddling with it just now. Sibeh funny.

I tuck the wires into the space below the headlights, the signal lights work, but the indicator on the display doesnt. Then i leave the wires hanging out of the space, the display work but right signal gone.

Replugged the connections, but still the same... Hahaha. Decided not to meddle with it any further in case i do something wrong, cos not tech trained.

RIDE.

Whatever you ride, 2-stroke, 4-stroke no-stroke....etc, please set aside some $$$ for a decent full face helmet, gloves and riding jacket.

And the simple rule always applies; only buy a bike if you can afford it.

Do factor in miscellaneous and expected expenditure like insurance, road tax, servicing...etc.

Many of us started 2B thinking it is enough, then upgrade to 2A thinking 400cc is overkill for Singapore roads, and then we went to Class 2. And never looked back. :)

I hope you are getting a FF.

I ride a kup and i wear my FF/gloves at all times. Always got people ask me, eh wear FF not hot ah? eh you got big bike ah?

I rather look like a racer wannabe to them that to look like a clown with broken chin.

Hahaha! Truth be told, i kena tok by the motordiam i bought from arh. They promised to deliver a roadworthy bike after delaying my collection for a week and a half, then did a half fudged job... Ride for a week problems start coming. First, the break pump, then the leaky carb (oh yah, replaced carb rubber seal cos worn out), then i got fedup and went to another shop my friend recommended. Over there, they found the rest of the problems lor... I forgot to add, replaced steering cone bearings also, cos chuied...

I always stay with my bike whenever i sent for servicing cos i want to learn more about them. It has been a very rewarding 5months of knowledge thanks to the servicing. If i had no problems, i prolly wont know much either, just change engine oil etc. lolol!

Anyway, now my bike running very smoothly, i think it's money well-spent for the knowledge and experience gained. Heh... Optimistic lah!

if they promise, go back with a experience rider previously.. they will be like "wow, got lao jiao, cannot play play ler.." *that's what I did by helping one newbie previously.. den the bike shop LL do.. But I advise that friend.. they will do but will be SLOW.. this one cannot be "done".. because it's free parts + free labour... :)

really very jia lat lor.. this one and that one within 5 months.. =_=""

Btw, your next bike shop I hope is a reputable one.. not those "small" shop.. :)

that will be some wires is loose.. just check one by one if you have the time.. *that's how I started playing with wires.. they wun "sabo" you as long you applied the correct way and check it slow and easy.. I once used 18hours to play with wires.. LOL..

Haha... Now i do my servicing at Hup Hin... So far so good, their service good. And the mechanic always explain what things need change and show me why need change, then explaination gao gao. Very informative for newbie like me.

Oh, for TS, please invest in good protective gears. Gloves with enough padding, fullface helmet, good jacket. Bike is one thing, but nowadays road not safe for riders. other vehicles dun give face one.

Helmet, i bought AGV at $250, but they say HJC cheaper and got PSB sticker, can consider.

Gloves, i'm inherited RS Taichi from my friend, but just ordered a dainese pair ytd... pocket big hole now. hahaha...

i bought a synthetic leather jacket from gmarket for $28. quite good buy, but not those serious riding jackets, just an added layer of protection nia.

if can afford, then get riding boots, otherwise, tightened army boots is good enough for starters.

Some people will say it's overkill for everyday riding, but it's lives at stake. i have seen people ligament tear at feet, dislocate elbow, shoulder, arms bloody and scarred when falling off bikes. Head injury so far never see, but got friend show me his old FF helmet with the chin area badly scratched. imagine if that was your chin instead. So safety gears, please invest.

RIDE.

Dont mind me asking how much did you pay for your insurance and which company?

My rate might not be relevant now as the pricing was in 2007. Then i paid almost $1000 for fire & theft from NTUC. Now might be even more ex.

Just heard from my friend that his SP engine crack than need change. I need something that will last me for about 2-3 years because after studying than NS liao also not much time to ride. After NS than consider whether to continue riding anot. I don't want get higher than 2B cuz I feel that it's like driving a ferrari for show only haha (not to offend those with 2A and 2 bikes). want to buy one bike also so much headache

imho, if i am in your shoes, this is what i will do...

1) get a 125z / rx-z...sportsbike even for 4 stroke cbr is too high now for youngster. my time 20 years ago is different story. now i heard young riders under 21 or p plate have to pay $1k for insurance alone! i got a shock & pity youngsters today.

get a wave, you get bored soon, get later when your hair turned grey. get cbr / r15 insurance so ex almost like sp/ kr...knn!

so get a fun yet cheap 2 stroke 125z / RX-Z , learn how to maintain & control a 2 stroke bike for a few years. later when you are older, more experienced & most important is your insurance is lower, then go & get KR or CBR or R15.

see how little sky99 spend on his 125z above?

you can get spark or other 4 stroke bikes, but i got a hunch you will buay tahan later, go take 2a & buy S4, after that still no shiok enough & take class 2 & buy big bikes like someone above that say since this is 2013, must use big bike.

unless your willpower very strong, can resist temptation & stick to spark/ jupiter. if you over 25, maybe can. but under 21 young man, blood hot very difficult wan.

same question, got tio chop bo? :)

Wiring? why need to do? & how much are you being quote? Did you check the pricing with other shops and is it really a must?

Sky99 & Heathx-

Just to verify, did you check forum for the problems & the price you are being quoted?

Secondly, did you get another experienced rider who has the same bike as you to verify that problem?

thirdly, did you verify that the pricing the bike shop quoted you was reasonable?

Reason for asking all these.

I was being quoted S$500 (exactly) for full service because my valve jam which can be resolved with S$35. That bike shop told me has to remove block, change dunno what bearing which I haven't heard till this date and so on..

*I was a P-plate at that point of time, lucky I was smart to "siam" from this bike shop.

Indeed~~ :p

I tour with my KR.. I ridden up to Hatyai before and next destination is Laos. :)

Indeed~ :)

1) yah, new bird must be careful, many places see new bird will anyhow 'xian' bs & chop deep deep.

2) wah, you very steady leh, take 2b bike go so far. pei fu pei fu! respect!

get a cbf150 ,

good fuel consumption , no need worry always need to pump petrol , nd spend money ,

cna put box, go to school also easier.

if u dun need the cool factor can consider the cbf

sorry lah bro, youngster where got buy cbf wan? even boon siew know this so now they bring in cg to fight ybr & pulsar. why, cause cbf looks cannot fight mah. uncle like us don't mind, youngster must stylo milo mah! we also young before, right?

Please, this is 2013, not 2003. The 2 stroke sport bikes era is outdated, even 4 stroke cubs. In fact, the market dun focus on class 2B anymore. Try something new, like Rieju, Royal Enfield, Triumph, etc. Just upgrade when u can :)

disagree! if you are loaded, anything goes but young man money tight big bike very siong wan. Rieju? spanish bike using Yamaha engine? newbie sure kanna chop dip dip when parts needed. Royal Enfield? the one under Indian ownership? pulsar more economical. Triumph? no 2b leh! TS is newbie, mah!

riding kup kia, want to ride like racer also cannot :D

NOT ME, but i have seen ( from behind them ) a johor plate 125z totally pawned a S4. it is the rider most of the time.

Nice views, I have to agree with you. :)

Posting a question to TS;

If you wanted a transport option for 3 years, why do you need a very powerful 2B bike?

P.S. you can choose not to answer my question or what, it's just my curiosity.

My view - (Plainly my own .2 cents)

If you wanted a transport bike to last for 3 years, you could get any 4 stroke bikes, be it whether it is powerful or not.

Most accidents happen due to human factors, ego, errors and such.

If a rider/driver can let his/her own pride or whatnot go, accidents rarely happen, I think.

End of view.

You could get a 4 stroke Cub if you don't mind the looks and small tank, if you know how to control your cub, you could easily squeeze 50km/l.

Only after learning how to control a bike, then will you control the fuel consumption.

:pity:

Road hogger @ 50km/h on 4th lane

A bike can go up till 200km/h, can the rider go up till 200km/h o_O

Bottomline is, seems to me TS has decided he wants a sportsbike from his very first post.

Sports bike for under 25 yo, and p-plate. NTUC will charge around $1.2k for 3rd party only. I heard some insurance companies don't take riders below 21, or even below 25, yet to verify that.

Since TS is looking to get 2B only and not planning to upgrade for a while, i would suggest R15, provided TS has budget. R15 will likely cost $5k for 2nd-hand at least, maybe up to $6k or $6.5. These are on-the-road prices.

Of course, after trying a cbr150r and riding my SP, i prefer SP cos pick up is better, and that pick up from SP, or 2-stroke sports bike, has help me avoid a couple of near misses. For 2B, when u need power, the 2-stroke can deliver it, but 4-stroke, feels a bit like ah ma crossing street compared to 2-stroke. (Don't beat me for saying that! it's just my opinion!)

Ultimately, TS dowan spend too much on maintenance, so newer 4-strokes will be his best bet. 2-strokes in the second-hand market now very hard to find very good condition ones. Sure will spend quite a bit on maintenance over 3yrs... if that's how long he can resist upgrading.

Cheers!

I'm not sure too. Maybe it's a norm for youngsters like us to get a 2B bike not sure but yeah because budget's a little bit tight and the prices between cub and sp not much difference.

You may be right about accidents due to human factors etc but I've recently seen the video where the lorry knocked into the female rider

and considering what Heathx said about helping him with near misses I think I would still got for a 2-stroke bike.

Like what bruce71 said, youngsters must stylo milo haha. Maybe I'm still young but yeah looks matters a little to me which is why I wanted to get a sports bike.

Also budget is tight so maybe if I heng heng get one well maintained bike than not much problem. Because I realise that after I buy the bike I also need save money to send bike for servicing.

Singapore standard living too high, public transport so lousy :/ bo bian must get cheap and good transport. Otherwise I will be spending more money on cabs when I'm late.

1) wow! insurance so expensive ah? that is like the amount of money i spend on my bike annually, including everything except for petrol. ridiculous to pay so much just for insurance alone. 4-stroke cbr or r15 also so expensive meh? machiam car leh! that is why i advise TS not to buy sportsbike until 25 lah.

2) your analogy is why i say get 2 stroke 125z / RX-Z ( uncle favourite ). think if even cbr150 feels like ah mah, what about wave? but if you are disciplined, steady steady safe safe rider, very patient type, then go for 4-stroke kup to save $$$.

Hehehe... Yea bruce, insurance now is killer. and the prices for the bikes are from what i know based on some hear-say lah. but still best to check with the shop. The prices i quoted for R15 and CBR150r are based on the newest models. if want older model then sure cheaper.

Jere, to avoid accident, it's more than just bike power. For the near misses i mentioned, it's cos cars change into my lane when they right beside me, thus i deem accelerating to get in front and get clear of their bonnet as the safest way to avoid accident. But there are times when you have to slow down or shift left/right also. In any case, some wise words my instructor passed down to me, "you can go however fast you want, but when the need comes, can you slow down fast enough?"

SP is a bang for the buck in terms of looks and performance vs budget than most other bikes. But you will need to bring someone experienced with the bike to buy with you, so they can check for you. During the so-called warranty period, ride the bike as much as possible, expose all the problems and get them fixed.

All the best!

haha yeah I understand. Yes I've pmed the guy hopefully he can help me when I'm getting the bike. My friend bought insurance from NTUC with his sp got quote of 1.3k I think. Everything now expensive next time can wake up 4 hours early walk to destination already haha

Yeah I understand what you mean. I see a lot of different kinds of driver when I'm in my father's car. A lot of drivers just treat motorcycles like bicycles even if you riding in the middle of the lane they feel that if they are in front of you they can reach the destination faster. Also some people like never check blindspot just cut into lane one.

Posted

Talking about checking blind spots.....I was then taking class 2B lesson. Stupid instructor says I never check blind spot. I told him I have my driving license even before he learn to ride bicycle. I told him if I don't check blind spot, I don't know how many motorbike I would have hit in 20 plus years of driving.

I got my license August last year, and get a second hand CFB 150, insurance is 300+. Have been driving for more than 15 years, and realize that riding is different, need more patient and skill. Any recomendation for the riding jacket and boots?

Different instructors have different views on blind spots, some more extreme than others, some more lax.

It might be that you checked, he missed seeing it.

You might be too fast or too slow, or the other way around, he's too early to check @ you, or too late.

Just take it in and learn lor :)

I got my license August last year, and get a second hand CFB 150, insurance is 300+. Have been driving for more than 15 years, and realize that riding is different, need more patient and skill. Any recomendation for the riding jacket and boots?

Hehehe... you want high-end, check out Dainese. Or go down to JR motorsports at Ubi to see-see-look-look.

Entry level can try RS Taichi, reputable brand but cheaper. Other brands I see quite commonly used are Bell, OGK.

I myself am using RS Taichi gloves at the moment, but as it was passed down to me by my friend, it's almost 10yrs old liao. I recently bought a replica Rossi gloves from Dainese. hehehe...

RIDE.

I'm not Bruce, but yes, after 25, the insurance drops quite a bit, due to age range. I am new rider, but 27yrs old, so my insurance was 800+ for SP. When the motordiam checking the list, i saw that those below 21 is 1.2 or 1.3k, can't rem liao. Then 22-25 is about 1k...

RIDE.
