I'd just get a regular key and save all the hassle.

And by the way, isn't the lock activated by just the shape of the "key" rather than by a magnet? I'll go check later anyway.

Yup so my point all along was, if you dont need the key hole lock, any spare key that you made can serve the purpose of starting the bike. Yup. But if you use the magnetic lock like me, the magnetic lock is unique to the series number of the key and you would have to buy the original key.

Welcome to the thread Dom!

Fuel tank fits 12 liters, according to the manual.

Greetings Bro. Just noticed this thread! Haha.. I've been riding my gts200 for 10 months now.. Just to share what i noticed:

For info on fuel gauge, after the last bar, it will blink when it reached reserve. so when its not blinking, its not on reserve.

My bike can go as far as 320km-350km, and my 2012 GTS200 tank is ard 13 litres.

My calculations on the fuel mileage, there are 5 bars. From the top to 4th bar, it will be ard 60-70km of riding, last bar 40km and reserve ard 20km. So average is 25-26km/Litre

and maybe ard 1-1.5 litres of reserve.

But this is based on my weight of 100kg and riding between 80km/h-110km/h. Weight and riding style do plays a part on fuel consumption.

O/R is engine oil reset indicator. It will light up after every 3km and its time to change your engine oil base on its specification. U may go further if u want to but once u change your oil,

press the button and it will reset. it will re-light after another 3km and another and another.

Anyway, this is purely based on my 10 months experience riding GTS200 and till now its still smooth.. Most relax bike i ever ride!

Maybe u can calculate ur own too! :thumb:

Hi Guys,

Just joined the SYM gts 200 grp by purchasing a 2nd one, a month ago.

Done my full service + flushing @ Asp ubi close to $200.

FC ranges from 28 to 33.5. Idling @1.5K rpm

full tank can go 380km before topping up. Anyone know our tank contain how litres?

Donno how to see if going reserve anot, cos until 380 Km no indication light is given

6.2K rpm -90Km/h

7k rpm -100 km/h ( feeling a little bit strain on engine)

Max speed went to 115km/h only. hehe

OVerall, this bike is GREAT!!! suits my daily travel. Large comfort seat, both disc brake.

Now i'm looking into changing the rear shock absorber. Anyone here have any recommendation to share ; )

Hi Bro, can you share what full servicing and flushing have you done to the bike? Also, the mechanic help to adjust the idling @ 1.5K rpm?

Problem?

Does anyone experience juddering/jerking when moving off from about 20-30kmh with light throttle after just slowing down? What I mean is like slowing down from say 60kmh to about 20kmh then speeding up again slowly? Feels like the clutch is not engaging properly or slipping.....

Anyone experience this?

Posted

Yup...

Mine is while moving off 20-30km. Belt like slipping. Need to slowly throttle during that speed

No idea abt the cause as well. Hopefully some one here knows :)

Posted

Hmmmm.....It started happening after my first service-non genuine belts and rollers used. I'm assuming that's the cause of it....But then, I didn't ride the bike very much (less than 100km) before sending it to be serviced. So, issue might have been there before, for all I know. And seems more pronounced when bike is hot.

Mechanic rode the bike and said everything is normal. But he would, wouldn't he?

Hope there's a fix...

Cannot really trust the mechanics even from dealer. I have my fair shares of experienced. They don really checked the bike. They just want to settle fast and do the next complicated bike repair.

I am also reading Sym Owner Forum Club from Malaysia. Their GTS200 is known as VTS200 which is exactly the same. I've learned a lot from them regarding our bike.

Have ur bike clutch shoes serviced. Problem will be solved.

But the problem will come back again because of our start-stop traffic condition.

There are a total of 3 pieces of clutch shoes in a set, when 1 is working slower than the others, jerking effects will start. It all happens in SG auto scooters with dry clutch CVT systems.

Hope my info help u guys.

Cheers

hi Guys,

I have been riding Gts for almost a year and half.

First time i started riding a scooter.

Somehow similar like most of us.

I would like to share my experience and my views on some shops that i know.

Hope no one gets offended as this is my honest opinion and hopefully u guys are better prepared.

As for the Gts, here are some info that i know:

The belt: Can last up to 20,000km. Recommended to change around 15-18000 km

Roller : will normally wear off faster due to our road condition so recommended to change 10,000km

U shoe : recommended to change together with the roller.

Servicing of the clutch : recommended every 2-3months.

What i mean servicing is really dismantle the auto gear at the back which sits behind the bowl. All the screws has to unscrew and the metal parts grease back before assembling it together again.

Coolant : recommended to change to the pure coolant as those mix coolant might spoil your block. ( this happens to me)

Engine oil : recommended to change every 2000km. It is recommended to change to the middle class oil as you will need to change often. I do under stand some of you might be thinking " hey engine oil suppose to last at least 5000km as normally said". This is the explanation from most authorised sym mechaninc. " This is a taiwan bike as such the engine items is not as powerful or durable as compare to japanese or italian. As such it is better to change your EO to prevent wear and tear faster"

Tire Pressure : Front 220 rear 235 without pillion 250 with pillion

Tire : Michelin Good but wear off fast

Pirelli and Metzelder - Medium average tyre

Maxxis - Worst tyre

List of shops:

Taihin - Good for accessories but not for service for me and customer service below average

Furture Scootering - Know your stuff before you purchase anything and over price

AC Motor - Good but most of the time busy and some parts of the bike he may not be quite gd

Nam Wah - Singapore sym official service centre : Went there first time yesterday. Good service and the mech Mike know his stuff well.

Address: 4002 ang mo kio ind pk 1 amk ave 10 #01-26

Mforce ( Johor taman Universiti) : Cheap place and have all the items as it is an offcial sym service centre. My advice is know why you need to change and if it is necessary. Watch what they doing.

Address: Type " jusco taman universiti. look for the petronas gas station . it is across A&W. If you were to reach there at petronas you will be able to see the poster of the shop nearby.

Accessories recommeded and heard for performance: Dr pulley roller it is best if you can mix 13.5g and 14.5g. However they come in one set. Which menas 13.5 is one set and 14.5 is one set. Can be purchased at Taihin.

Gpr exhaust : Can be purchased at future, dream catcher or the gpr distributor. Price are all about the same 600+

Air filter : It best recommended to use the original as if you were to use the open air filter , there are high chances of water entering your engine and damaging your engine.

Servicing the clutch will cost roughly about $30 at scooter narcotics! There are aftermarket clutches and I'd recommend the Malossi ones over the dr.pulley.

I disagree with some of the recommendations for service intervals here.

There is no need to service your clutch every 2 - 3 months. There is nothing to service other than checking for pad wear, and if you are using aftermarket parts, the tensioning screw adjustment to ensure they did not run and are equally tensioned for each of the pads; of course greasing the CVT shafts as well both at the variator and clutch end. You should service your CVT all at the same time when you change your belt, roller, and then check your clutch at the same time. Service intervals for the aforementioned would be recommended at 10,000km.

Over time, you will know when it's a good mileage to change your belt - depending on your riding style. I've had belts reaching almost breaking point even after only slightly more than 6000km after long distance touring at max throttle.

You can easily dismantle your own CVT cover, and check the condition of your belt.

If you are using fully synthetic good quality oil, changing them at intervals of 5000km is definitely no issue. Don't waste money on bike shops that play on your emotions that your baby will suffer if you dont change it every 1000-2000km and that u will spend a bomb on engine repairs if you dont change EO, bla bla bla bla.

My two cents worth.... err.. or few hundred SGD worth ...hahaha

Sorry forgot to inform about the gear oil.

On That i changed everytime i change my engine oil. Also i rarely use yamaha auto gear oil as it seems to be very thin compared to the one recommended by sym.

On the point of changing oil every 2000km, to me i dnt see the seller trying to make money out of it.

A medium EO will only cost 12-16 depends on the brand. A fully syntechtic EO will cost about 22-29 per bottle.

Looking at the difference it is only a few bucks difference when you times two the EO of a medium EO.

Also looking at the rev of the engine of a scooter it is always going at about a high rev of about 7 and above if you usually ride 80-100.

Furthermore it is a single cylinder engine.

On the servicing of clutch, i like to service 2-3 months as i really dont like when the bike start to have the jerky effect.

I just see it as lubricating the gear.

If you ride a normal bike with chain you would lubricate it once in a while but looking at a cvt i dnt see y i should not lubricate it.

The first few months when i ride i keep having the jerky effect and ignoring it till it spoil my engine bush.

And the feeling is not fun when the jerky effect come to play.

Still the preference is up to you guys.

Last but not least here is the pricelist which is usually updated based on the market price.

However it is in RM. It will be useful if you are going to malysia as this is the price they follow.

As for Singapore, it is somewhere around ther but maybe a slightly more after conversion.

Singapore you can get your spare parts at WEDA along Rowell Rd. That is the only place i know has SYM. Not sure of others.
