After watching the video, I found some other useful videos about the bike, thanks Melvyn.

But another video really put me off from changing my headlamp bulbs....removing the whole fairing to change a bulb or 2 is ridiculous! Unsure if the bulbs are accessible via the wheel area....

Hey guys,

for those who wanna be adventurous and adjust your rear shock by yourself and do not know how to, I've discovered a video that has similar rear shock and shows us the step by step on how to turn it.

Get your hands dirty.. :)

Hi gpan,

Yup....i guess you were referring to the malaysian guy who worked on his VTS. Really impressive and nice of him to post those DIY.

I find it equally ridiculous to tune the idling as well. Need to remove the whole seat just to access the idle!! haa...

And since we are at the topic of headlamp bulbs, i see some bikes and cars having those LED white lights as their bulbs, is that legal? Are we allowed to change it to white color from our current dull yellowish color?

regards,

Melvyn

Yes, I was referring to him. He has a blog too. He's quite into his bike and very DIY person-good info.

The LED white lights that you see on the roads are called HID lights. HID stands for High Intensity Discharge and refers to the bulbs. But these HID bulbs have to be used with proper reflectors if not the light will be glaring to oncoming traffic. So, if you just change from halogen (OEM/stock) to HID, it is illegal. HID lamps also need to have an auto leveling device too. To answer your question simply, it is illegal for us to change to HID.

But for white looking lights, we have options-change change to "whiter" output bulbs or use LED. Halogen bulbs generally have a light color of 4300K (yellow/orange colour), white is from about 5000K to 8000K, then higher it goes bluish and even up to purple! I find 5000-6000K to be a nice shade of white.

Our bulbs are H7 (we need 2). Can either buy LED from eBay or Autobacs or halogen bulbs but the high K halogen bulbs are expensive, can be about $40 per bulb....

Problem with LED is that it might not be bright enough for us while riding plus for visibility to other traffic as safety.

I'm still thinking about my next step in terms of lighting....

Hope this helps....

very detailed indeed gpan. :D

but yeah, changing the bulbs will be a hassle as need to take out front fairing... just cosmetics purpose, so not urgent.

Tmr have to go down Mah motors for my 2nd servicing... then need to wash bike... have not done so ever since got the bike 1 month+ back.

Thanks Melvyn :-)

There might be a way to reach bulbs from above the front wheel...I'm reluctant to try as I'm afraid I can remove bulb but can't reinstall....

Nice one bro!

So you were running constantly at 110kmph, roughly 9k rpm all the way?

Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk 2

my 110km/h is about 8k rpm, i try not to exceed 8k rpm to not over strain the bike

Posted
Melvyn, could you ask the mechanic at Mah how they change the bulbs? Thanks.

Hi gpan,

I asked the mech and indeed, we could change the front light bulb from the wheel side.

There is this rubber flab that acts as a cover, you flip it to the side, then plug out a cable, and good to change. (something along that line, didn't manage to have a free demo, just verbally. ;))

Are you gonna change your bulb? :)

Hey guys, I'd like to get suggestions from you. An acquaintance (not that close) has a gts200 to sell. According to him, it's only 2year old+. Travelled distance 300,000km+++

He is selling it for $4k. Condition quite ok. Every thing Is stock, without rear box.

What you all think of the price?

Thanks.

I think for $4k, a 2+ years bike is good value. But 300000+ km? The circumference of the world is about 40000km, so that's like gone 12 times round the world....crazy.

Oh, so 4k is good value? I wasn't sure Initially cos I see quite a few 2nd hand gts 200 going under 3k. Though not sure of e condition.

Btw I was shocked too... When I saw e mileage.. Maybe see wrongly ba.. But I did see lots a zeros. Lol

@ gpan

Bro if you DIY, let me know leh. Keen in changing it into white light as well ;x

@ rubbermouse

Agreed with Mark. Bring some one down with experience.

Sometime buyer gets over-excited about the bike, hence lower awareness of tiny flaws while test ride.

For 2 yrs GTS, I think 4k is fine. If viewing is at east side, just let me know and can try to arrange to go with you la ; )

Side track a bit.

Hey guys, like to check with you all. What kind of EO you guys using?

The reason why i ask is due to the mech changed my EO to 15w50(motul) instead of the recommended 10w40 (I was using schaeffer 9000,5w40)

To my recent read up online, thicker oil seem to lower FC but gives better anti- wear protection.

My FC increases 20% from 30avg to 36km/L.

Wonder why?

Share your idea with me ; )

I was thinking the same too....dominictsk's FC seems to have decreased...more km per liter. Servicing would decrease FC-new oil, new belt and overall bike is "refreshed"....

Engine oil plays a large part-thinner oil would give better FC (lesser friction) but less protection to engine. The last 2 digit refers to the "thickness"/viscosity of oil. So, 50W is "thicker" than 40W, for example.

dominictsk - you FC should have become worse as you're using thicker oil....

Fc increase or decrease?

Fc increase means drink more petrol.

Thank you for your replies!!

@max: So you been using **w50 oil and everything is ok? And gain better FC?

@daniel: my FC drecreaes from 30 to 36km/l . Sry ar my bad for using "increase"

@ gpan: yes I agree with you that thicker oil should get worse FC due to the higher thickness in the EO.

my servicing only consist of EO and normal spark plug.

Let me monitor for a couple of weeks and update u guys abt the FC ;)

So far I'm looking online for bulbs. Price range seems to be between $10-30 but might take a week or so to arrive. I will go and check out Autobacs too but they are usually expensive....
