When exactly are red light cameras activated?

Hi guys! I'm a new p-plate rider, and a few days ago I had a slightly scary experience on West Coast hwy near Science Park rd. It was one of my first times riding so I was riding a bit slow, as I wanted to start out being cautious and was just getting used to the bike. As I approached the traffic light, it turned amber about .3 seconds before I entered the intersection -- not enough time to safely stop. So I proceeded through, but I was going so slowly that I'm not 100% sure whether I exited the intersection before the light turned red. Then I noticed a bunch of signs warning "traffic police camera area". I'm not 100% sure, but it's possible I saw a flash, could also have been my headlights reflecting off something in front of me. (It was about 9pm so there was nobody else on the road.)

Do you guys know whether the camera could be activated in such a situation? Or does it only activate if you /enter/ the intersection on a red light? And how long will I have to wait before finding out whether it snapped a picture? I really don't want to lose my license I worked so hard to get, so am very scared!

the trigger point should be at where the pedestrian crossing ends, unlikely in the junction box. for obvious reasons, the tp will never share publically what triggers the camera

but if you really did get snapped by the camera.. the flash is very very obvious especially at night, u won't miss it. chances are if you are doubting if there is a flash, then it didn't happen. also it won't flash once, but actually twice or three times

if you are still worried, u can get AXS via the app or website after a few days to see if any summon has been issued, will be faster than waiting for traffic police letter

btw, if u r p-plate, u have 12 points, beating demerit is 12 points, u can still ride with 0 points, correct me if im wrong

If you cross the stop line before it turns red, it's should not trigger the camera. My rule of thumb is that if I am going at (or near to) the speed limit of that road and light turns amber, as long as I can still see ONE arrow on the road (before the stop line), I'll stop even if it means I stop after the stop line.

If no arrow but only the stop line, means I am too close & probably can't stop safely (without loosing control) anymore. I'll accelerate & go thru. Normally in this situation, we should cross the stop line before it turns red but it's just to get out of the junction ASAP.

And @w7_lee, the arrow tip is useful, thanks! Hopefully this will help me become more confident and less scared of the red light cameras, which seem to be everywhere!

@westcoastbestcoast did you check AXS? should be in the system already if really kena.. otherwise congrats!! no summon! just be weary when approaching a junction from now on.. not just the 12 points but also safety. as u do not know what other road users will do (like beating red light!)

I still feel damn nervous at intersections, and when the light turns amber I say to myself "12 points cannot, rear-ended also cannot!" Maybe I'll buy a helmet cam, so if it's a borderline case I'd at least have video evidence for an appeal.

Arrow tip  is just from my experience. Once I was going to fast, light turns amber and I could still see an arrow. Had to brake very hard that my rear wheel locked and could feel the rear of my bike moving left/right and had to drop gear quickly to slow further. Rear brake can only slow down but can't stop the bike. Engine brake can reduce the speed further safely. Only the front brake can actually stop the bike but only when the speed is slow (or safe) enough. Just don't let it lock.  Speed is critical, don't go too fast. And yes, cameras are everywhere but I think it's necessary. Good luck

hi guys so basically im at from jurong going to jalan bahar turing right but theres red light cam there. Theres 1 traffic light and 2 way. The going straight direction is in red colour but turning right is green but when i was at the last arrow it was amber so i jam break but my front tyre passed it so i look at the arrow still amber & i step on the accelerator to pass it when i was at the middle of the junction it was already red. Do you think i will get summon? i scared i didnt managed to pass the line on time.

How the captures? When its triggered, does the red light camera also captures the face of the driver?

1) no flash = ok

2) usually flash on straight roads 

3) look previous post.. they did mentioned all these as well..

not really face unless you look at the camera, they could have a rough idea on the body shape/sizing.. if required, they will retrieve video footage from other departments. 

but 100% sure, cannot hide one...
