Hello, I am contemplating on these 2 bikes, CB400 vs MT03.  Which one to buy?

Can help to list out the pros and cons? I am thinking to get a 1st hand bike, less problem.

Thanks so much in advance.

heard tht the s4 is more costly to maintain, but its powerful and sounds good.

Ya. powerful but heavier. Maintenance wise is higher because S4 require 4 X 1L EO.

If you really compare the ratio, their on the road performance is almost the same.

The difference is the number of cylinders and sport design, which is the S4 4-inline sound (vroom vroom), vs the MT03 sporty outlook.

Go for S4 if you want sound, Go for MT03 if you want torque and sporty outlook.

Price wise S4 is way higher than MT03.

All really depends on individual.

Ya, the sound for S4 is really damn good. But price is almost double.

I’m currently riding the MT-03, the fuel consumption (27km per liter), price and maintenance (only 2 cylinders and 2 bottles of EO) alone made me pick this over the S4. I’m also quite skinny so S4’s weight is more of an annoyance to me than anything. For me this inline-2 engine with 42PS is all I need in a bike for use in SG.

MT03

Pros:

-Fuel savings for 2A bike approx 27kmpl.

- High revving engine (mid and high range torque)

- 168kg kerb weight, almost like 2B bike

- 2 cylinder, lesser EO (approx 2L)

- lower maintenance costs

- easily cruise at 100-120 without breaking a sweat. 6th gear is geared for approx 100kmh and max fuel savings so don’t be pressured to ride it so hard.

- reported top speed stock (not tested by me coz I want my license) is 180-190kmh. Other factors like weight and aerodynamics will affect final reading.

Cons:

- Due to the nature of the high revving engine, it’s doesn’t accelerate well below 7k rpm (feels like a 125cc at Low rpm and a proper 2A sports bike at high), need to keep it above 8k to experience the power band. But the engine is very good natured meaning it can accept a very slow and chill rider or a very hot headed one. The chill rider definitely gets the better fuel mileage.

- 2019 version and below has low  handlebars so the riding position is fairly similar to a sports bike. Need bar risers for comfort. 2020 version has better ergonomics.

- since you have a 2A license, it would be logical to max it out on a 399cc engine rather than a 321cc.

- Suspension might be shittier for heavier riders above 80kg when pushing the bike hard. Might need to swap it out for some quality alternatives. 2020 version has slightly harder USD forks, previous gen all telescopic. You can also change to a thicker fork oil to remedy the stock soft settings.

- Brakes do a good job but can be bttr, they have a wooden feel. This is me coming from my Bybre brakes from my previous ride.

cb400 and mt03 really very similar but very different at the same time. 14hp diff, and 321cc vs 399cc.. mmmm. do you need the extra power?

another thing to consider also is the resale value..

cb400/super4 has fantastic resale value in singapore.. but the mt03 isn't too bad as well but it's pretty new so hard to tell.

have u decided yet bro? @jov87

The R3/MT03 i feel is the sweet spot for SG roads. It’s 29nM of torque is enough to tell everyone you’re riding a 2A bike without killing fuel efficiency and also without adding additional weight like the super4. That being said the super4 is smoother at high speeds due to the inline-4 engine. But because of the additional weight the pick up is roughly the same on both bikes.

Coming to the ZX25R. It’s a track toy. We don’t even have enough roads to even utilise the super high revving inline-4 engine that the ZX25R has. Highways are super congested by the time you reach the correct rpm 10k+ to feel the power, you’ll be cock-blocked by a road hogger or stuck in some GG traffic jam. It also costs the same price as an S4 according to my calculation.

Do you want better handling?

R3/MT03

Do you want high speed stability, a more balanced engine at all rpms? Are you also richer by like 7k?

S4

@An_idiot you make a very strong case for the MT03.. actually i rode the MT03 when taking Class 2A at CDC... it really is a good bike. in fact for sg roads i would take the MT03 over the class 2 MT07.. the MT07 is way too hot!

I wonder if you already purchased.. meanwhile, I just purchased a MT03 over S4, like what others had mentioned.. FC and maintenance is the main factor for me.. thus I opt for MT03 over S4.. I even ask opinions from motorshops, they also recommended MT03 over S4.. :)

S4 is more powerful.. but if you wan powerful.. you will go for Class 2.. If you just want something to ride permanent - Mt-03 (not too underpowered nor over powered).. :)

Kindly read thru at least the intro section first before decide to post any comments.... thanks...
