It is good response from both sides of the table.

It is also good to hear opinions from different prespective.

Now allow me to throw in mine in simple english so as not to create anymore unnecessary contention. Let me also try to be as factual and as least emotional as possible.

Hi James996,

Firstly, I can see your and mokamoka's concern over the MO i posted for the K&N air filter. It was due to some MO that went wrong due to insufficient info given at the start.

However, if I may ask, why do people felt 'hollanded' for the previous MOs? (disclaimer : I do believe this word is not Standard British English, in case there are people out there thinking of correcting me for that)

If I am reading it correctly, you mentioned price and waiting time. For both, I have indicated all the uncertainties / open factors that will affect the MO result.

Like I said, it is a free world, if anyone decides to participant in the MO. The readers are expected to understand and agree to the uncertainties / open factors when they put their name up for the MO.

We are all mature adults who are capable or understanding that. I have lay down all the cards on the table, I really cannot see the concern that there will be subsequent complain that they have been taken for a ride or waited in vain?

Having said so, do you still see it as a problem the way I phrase the MO? If yes, please specifically point out why.

Secondly, you guys can laugh over the correction of typos about each others. That is among yourselves, others may or may not appreciate the same.

I personally believe it is not correct to impose a certain form of expectation on others that you do not know. I am quite sure your goodself and others reading this will agree with me.

If you again so agree, I will then ask you to practice what you believe. For I personal find the person who tries to correct me over mirror typo is just being pain in the wrong place. In additional, I am not enjoying it nor laughing at it.

I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and in this case, I am entitled to making that opinion.

Regards.

Hi ahmeow,

No one (at least not me) is trying to judge another here. Are you? I guess everyone is just expressing their viewpoints; how they perceive the incident.

I have physically and personally been to an outing at coffeeshop at Changi Village once. I will agree strongly with you that the group is fun looking and love to 'suan' each other at every possible chance. Fun-love and very bonding bunch!

Having said that, is it a mandatory requirement to meet up with the group at their outings? Even if I meet them up, am I expected to accept their style in order to 'click' with them?

In my personal opinion, answer to both questions are 'no'. It is a free world. I do not think I have to be in the 'click' in order to be able to own and ride a Yamaha Fazer motorcycle. I like the bike and enjoys riding it. And I certainly do not see a need for others to endorse that I am fazer rider.

While the suggestion is constructive, it is by no mean the only way. So what will you suggest to people who does not want / have time/ see a need / too lazy / cannot 'click' with the group when they come out for the outing? This is inline with your sentiment that "everyone has their own personality".

Lastly, I bothered to read your block of text as well as everyone elses' if they are constructive and positive. Whether you believe it or not, I have learnt that in live, although you cannot please everyone, one should at least learnt to listen to everyone. Give everyone a fair chance to speak and state their viewpoints.

Regards.

Hi LollyPoP,

I dare not say I have fine English standards myself. Hence, when someone make a grammatically incorrect sentence, I will also try to figure it out what they mean instead of trying to mock at them.

Let me give you a very real example. If your good friend comes to you and his very first statement is "CB lah!" I am sure you will wait till he state why he makes that sentenance.

But if someone the you do not know comes to you and first thing he say is "CB lah!". I am sure your reaction could have been more aggressive. Most unfortunately, I do not know mokamoka and bigman well enough, hence, I believe my reaction to their replies is therefore not to be a surprise.

This points me back to the words of wisdom that someone once told me "(in the forum) if you have nothing better to say, just shut up". As you will agree, an statement may be harmless to one, yet insulting to another.

Hi innards,

Somehow, I tend to agree with you. Most of us by now, would have already know that you can't please everyone. As a free world, one may ask question as he/she would please and you (and others) would answer if you (or others) please.

In layman English (aka Singlish): They ask their business, you not happy don't reply lah!

But if you do attempt to reply. Try not to be rude (again, that is just my personal suggestion, it has no assertive intention)

I like the message that the pic is trying to deliver. But perhaps being blunt and rule is your cuppa...

Regards

i have some respect for bigman.

Think about it...

Your mother gives you a name...

Everyone who sees you call you something else... how you feel???

I think I have made my point...

Think about it...

Your mother gives you a name...

Does everyone pronouce/spell/write your name correctly?

Does it mean that you whack anyone who happen to spell your name incorrectly everytime?

I think I have made my point...

PS: I don't think anyone will purposely spell Fazer as FRAZER... It can very well be a typo or honest mistake will no ill-intention. Peace.

Hi mokamoka,

You certainly have made your point.

To tell you the truth, I have never really bothered how people call me. Since young, I have dozens of nicknames and different ways that people pronounce my name. There are some that call me 'kennon' (more like cannon), some call me 'ken-net' (cos they can pronouce the 'th').

I always tell them its okay, so long as I know they are calling me. I really do not see a problem with that.

Just like the name 'Bernard' is pronounced differently in the West and here in the East. I certainly do not see people getting offenced over such small matter.

If you do not mind me saying, quit being so anal...

Hi friedfishz,

Thanks for pointing it out.

Just kidding of course. He nicely sums up what everyone over at the darkside is all about.

Hi innards,

I think you are forgetting something here...

This is not the dark side but Singapore Bikes Forums.

If you have certain ways of life at the dark side, I appreciate that you keep it there.

It is a different culture between the 2; certain things you do at the dark side is deem fun loving but at this forum means you get banned. I believe I do not have to spelt everything out.

Kindly differentiate.

Cos he makes the effort to get to know the guys! :thumb:

Your perogative. Nobody forcing you to do whatever u dun want to.

Your loss is no one's gain.

Hi NewlyFazed,

To know the guys is one thing, to not be offended is another.

You understand why Singapore Government wants to increase the GST. But does it means you are happy and willing to pay?

Also, like you mention, it is his perogative, since it is his perogative, then why is it his loss? You sounded contradicting.

Lastly, again, its a free world... Everyone is free to do what they deem fit.

I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and in this case, I am entitled to making that opinion.

Put it simply, these guys have been on this thread a long time.

When in Rome, do what the Romans do.

Otherwise, it’s time to get out of Dodge.

BTW, it’s also quite obvious that most Fazer related questions are naturally directed at them.

I, like you, personally believe it is not correct to impose a certain form of expectation on others that you do not know. Since they feel that you obviously can’t spell or call the name of the bike right, or perhaps even make that minimal effort to try to….. they can choose to ignore you, correct you, or poke fun at you. They do not have to follow your expectations and answer nicely or whatever. Especially so since they don’t know you.

The blade cuts both ways.

Whether you believe it or not, I have learnt that in live, although you cannot please everyone, one should at least learnt to listen to everyone. Give everyone a fair chance to speak and state their viewpoints.

So you’ve met them.

So have I.

And I don’t join them for every outing either. I would say perhaps 1 out of 5. Moka and Bigman can vouch for that. Perhaps I’m in Ah Meow’s thumb club too. ;)

It’s neither mandatory to meet up with them, or accept their style, or even “click” with them. No sirree…. Nope. You can go ahead and buy your very own Fazer and find another group to go party, go riding, or get jiggly with. It's your life and your bike, really.

But since you're here, asking them questions.....

Neither is it mandatory for them, nor an obligation on their part, to even answer your question properly if you can’t even phrase it or get the terminology right. In computing terms, it would be GARBAGE IN, GARBAGE OUT.

You see…YOU are going to THEM with a question.

And as I mentioned above… they can choose to ignore you, correct you, or poke fun at your incorrect terminology. Get real. It’s the Internet, for fvck sakes! ;) If you can’t take the heat here, you’d expect them to turn on the fan or A/C unit for you? I believe the adage goes: If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

This points me back to the words of wisdom that someone once told me "(in the forum) if you have nothing better to say, just shut up". As you will agree, an statement may be harmless to one, yet insulting to another.

Broken record says…. You went to them with a question. They’re not beholden to answer nicely, nor meekly, nor politely, if you can’t get your questions right in the first place.

But if you do attempt to reply. Try not to be rude (again, that is just my personal suggestion, it has no assertive intention)

As above.

Heat…. Kitchen… Dodge….

Nobody forced me to go to their weekly Friday meetings; in fact I'm guilty of NOT going to most of the gatherings since I'm under the thumb club (got gf lah, and she don't want to go to these LKS all the time, as she catch no ball) I don't feel ostracized if I cannot turn up for X amount of meetings, and there is nobody to take attendance; as adults, we all have different commitments, and I'm sure people will understand.

I read up a lot on my own, and the guys over the other side will reinforce on what I know, rather than spoon feed all the info. I mean, you don't turn to them only when you have questions right? Also, you can't talk about bikes all the time, and my guess is people will feel tired in explaining things that have been explained before. My guess is they are trying to build up a sense of community or belonging, and this cannot be established if they are treated as a Q&A forums.

That is why they seem hostile when people just go in and post a one-liner, asking for this and that info without even introducing themselves proper first. That's part of the group dynamics.

Hi ahmeow,

I guess in every forum, there are people like that lurks around and only post a question or two. This is the cyberworld.

Although, I don't personally appreciate if someone else treats me as Q&A /info / spoon feeding forums, sad to say there are just all kinds of people out there. Only thing I can say is that maybe after sometime, you might just want to stop replying.

Still, thats where I first started. It seems like there is already an expected form of behaviour from the group and people are expected comform in order to be treated as part of the group.

Again, back to the 'wild hog' movie; those who own the road and everyone else become posers.

Regards.

As for correcting of the model name, i believe i did not shout or CAP all my words so ............ never mind.

All I wanted to do was to highlight the error.

Hi bigman,

I very much appreciate and respect your style; straight-forward and to the point. Facts without the emotion even when under 'not-so friendly' remarks.

Displays a great deal of maturity. Sad to say, maturity no long comes standard with the package as people gets older.

Hi innards,

Looks like you like to get things all personal. How old are you 16? hahaha...

Let me try the other way round, maybe by talking 'your language', it works better for you. Cos someone told me before that the most effective way to communicate is to speak their language.

I presume you when you studied in pre-school or primary school, your teacher does not teach you proper manners? You should really be nice you know. Singapore is a gracious society. *blah blah blah*

If you say all about not giving a damn, then do it. Instead of on one hand, say all the don't give a hoot this and don't give a hoot that but ended up getting all worked up and posting in large fonts. Talk is cheap, grow up kiddo!

Ban you? For what, then I will not get my regular dosage of kicks out of seeing you providing the entertainments? And you are right, I can't ban anyone since i am just a nobody in this forum.

I really over-estimated your level of comprehension, I say everyone is free to what they deem fit, so I am free to post my sorry-ass story and waste 5, maybe 10 or 15 minutes of my time here. That got absolutely nothing to do you too. Ops, maybe you will not understand this again. Well, nevermind then...

Attract your attention? No no no... you don't wear skirt so I really have the slightest interest of getting your attention. Please don't flatter yourself.

Thanks for suggesting that I can spend my time on another thread. Nah, I like here better, have people like yourself who will play monkey to provide entertainment. Again free world... Quoting what you have mention, what can you do, Ban me?

Somehow, I have to agree that talking rot is more fun that straight talks... kekeke...

Looking forward to your unfavourable replies!
