Hi guys. Just got my FZ1-S. Can anyone advise the proper way to run in the bike?

According to the manual, i cannot go above 6000 rpm for the first 1600 km. But the bike shop said not to go above 80km/hr or 6000 rpm for the first 3000 km.

Which do i follow? Any other things to take note? Sorry if this has been discussed before. Thanks.

my opinion, unless you're clear of what you're doing, else just follow ur owner's manual will do... it's printed in black & white rather than you listen to feedbacks all around that confuses you... statistics had prove to show that's why it's out in black & white... elsewise if you have other statistics to believe upon...have

For the first 2 or 3 oil change , use those cheap mineral base engine oil and original oil filter. Some people change the first engine oil and oil fliter at 500km, some at 1000km. Most important is varies your running speed and let the bike get use to the stop , go traffic situation in s'pore.

Just a normal H1 bulb can already... you need to cut off some parts and solder some wire to the bulb.

1st thing to note, MUST warm up the bike till running temp which is 80+ degree b4 u start ur runnining in.

2nd thing to note, use only mineral oil during run in. reason, i oso dunno. manual or other sites discussing on run in oso states to warm up bike to running temp n use only mineral oil.

running in got 2 methods. soft n hard run in. most bike shops n manual always recommend soft run in. hard run in, there's dyno n running in on track, or running in urself on the open road.

bike shop says something which is very contradicting. not to go above 80km/h or 6000rpm. for fz1s, the rev at 80km/h is 3000. rev at 6000 is speed of 140km/h. even a 400cc bike, 6000rpm can achieve a speed of 100km/h.

an article on run in.

http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

how true, i dunno. i only know run in is to set in the piston rings hence u cannot go too light on them.

for me, class 2 bikes just ride normal... hard abit wun kill the engine. the engine is designed to withstand abuse.

Honda Super 4 Ver S: Mar 02 - Sept 05

PGO Gmax 150: Sept 05 - Dec 05

Honda Super 4 Vtec 1: Nov 05 - Apr 07

Suzuki GSR 400: Apr 07 - Dec 09

Yamaha FZ1S: Nov 09 - May 13

Kawasaki GTR 1400: Jan 13 - ??? ??

for your reference la jid_10, i follow somewhere pretty close to the web link...

i changed the first set of mineral EO + OF at around 25km...

next mineral EO + OF change at 500km...

next fully sync EO + OF change at 1000km...

during run-in, i never go slow on my engine...

follow what you wish to go... dun follow blindly... trust your instinct...

Hoping that if there is any type of gathering like makan trip or short trip to JB with all the fazer bikers...

yes there are... offlines...

main one would be the LKS every tuesdays night locally at LFC...

many others of small groups of different kind of gatherings... try making fazer friends around then join them/us for gatherings outside...

the largest fazers only gathering would be 2+ years ago of our moderator, racingter's wedding with 30 over fazers and the latest one would be at January this year, convoy to SBF anniversary compound of like 30 over fazers too... it's a grand sight... hahaha...
