for those who have not taken a close scrutiny of the physical design between the gen1 and gen2 fz1, here goes.

those who thought the 06 looked wierd and not as sharp and fierce from the side profile, nothing is quite as obvious as in the photo above.

 

the "jagged" end of the head cowl is what makes it feels wierd. and of course nothing hits me more than the short snubby poodle tail of the 06. it's lower and shorter and more rounded. nothing like the sharpness and fierceness afforded by the gen1. and this makes the 06 look smaller than the gen1.

 

and i wonder why the sportier 06 is not looking as sporty. most sports bred have the tailboard high up nearly inline with the windscreen and is characterisically sharp.

i hardly think there'll be much disagreement that the 06 is the fiercer looking machine from the front profile. the little neat trick is to raise and sharpen the eyes from the corners, giving it some sort of the typical villian look. and the "wind tunnel" below the screen adds a "nose" to the face. the mirrors are also now slightly wider, and the taller and smarter looking windscreen gives the impression of a "taller forehead".

 

the golden forks contrast very well with the shift red. and so naturally it seems that more yanks got this fabulous paintwork (hail katana and me!). the more pointed signals also adds to the sharp lineage of the 06.

 

but if there must be a flaw, it's the fender. gen1's fender is the sportier of the two, and by a long mile. and if you look even harder, i think you'll agree that the mainstand of the gen1 is better looking, and don't look like the cheapo hollow tubular steel piece found in the 06.

from the rear profile, things get a little more complex. the straight bars from the 06 gives the feeling that you're rowing a boat. this design get mixed opinions. some say it improves the handling, some say it's weird and would be the 1st thing to go. i think it will probably be like the cannon exhuast that will slowly grow onto me in terms of the look.

 

down to the tank you can see that the gen1 tank has sharper lines and somehow to me looks better. the humped ("n" profiled) tank of the 06 do not look as good as the gen1 "v" profiled tank from the rear.

 

the taillights of the 06 without a doubt looks better and will definitely give more visibility but the rounded poodle tail has certainly lost the sharp and fierce lines of the gen1 that gives it a really sporty look. well, it don't look so bad from the rear profile but it's really obvious from the side. and althought the rear of the 06 looks ok by itself, putting it alongside the gen1 shows the obvious difference in sportiness.

 

maybe the first thing that struck you is the hmm... out of place rear fender. it's seems to stick out like a sore thumb it really does. i won't deny it looks better (just fender-fender comparison) but it don't really seem to be designed "into" the bike. and the fender seems big when contrasted against the tail light. or maybe it's the fault of the slim extender? let's wait and see if the look will grow more acceptable as time passes.

 

finally i'm not sure how many of you started to accept the cannon like new exhaust design of the 06 but it certainly has grown only me since i saw it in the flesh. now when put up against the classical endcan design, it looks kinda nice.

 

oh... and if i must describe it as such, the new pillion footpeg design does look like a member of a typical male anatomy when flacid...

Firstly, my present bike really cannot make it! Don't ask me to explain later someone here from ASP then I won't be able to trade-in liao. At least Katana only got botak tyres but at least still Fazer mah.
