I just heard abt it recently too (abt signal lights). It irks if they just go by the book without using their brain. Surfing LTA site but I cant find any mentioning abt it. U got the leads where we can refer to?

LEDs are not necessarily brighter than normal bulbs. In certain points they are brighter. But if you really notice, these LEDs are of no use during the day. Especially those that are not optimized (so say those that comes stock with the bike). Its just a tiny bright light which is not that clear for other motor vehicle to see. Its also the same at night. Try to take notice on some of the bikes that are fitted with aftermarket ones.

Not saying that LEDs are lousy. Just need to get a really good optimized one. So that could be the reason why LTA not approving aftermarket LEDs.

I believe if in doubt can always ask LTA and I am sure they are more than willing to answer to the query.
