yup, it's possible:

1991 Nissan Presea

downpayment $5K

installment $312 x 48 months (those idiots wont let me pay in full, wanna earn interest at 3.25%)

parking + ERP = $100

insurance + road tax =$200

petrol and oil change = $400

$100 standby monthly for repairs....ancient cars need this keke

$1112....usually slightly less as this car's condition damn good....can save the last item keke.

sidelining a bit....

the situation now is like this. COE dirt cheap and cars much cheaper than before and leverage is easier than ever.

Roads are flooded with cars, travelling is delayed and ERPs are popping up with extended hours. More accidents on the road simply becos there are many more newer drivers who can buy cars. Parking is worse and more expensive in every Town Centre. My Town Centre happens to be Orchard Road so I suffer the most.

Since COE prices dropped and cars got cheaper, I'm one unhappy dude, i tell you.

Damn

actually lookin at the prices of sg, there are still pple who can easily afford but die die wont get a car, or either that, the crazy jam will take longer for them to reach home compare to public

i was thinking for bikers, actually the best way is to get an OPC car and still ride a bike

this is definitely alot better cos for pple who work in town, the parkin can actually kill u, apart from jams, erp

if u dont need to travel much, like meet customers or wad, a gd transport from office to home is bike, at nite can drive for supper, wkend, when it pours or wen u need to run errands, jus tear the 20dollars coupon n u get to drive in ur own comfort, its damn attractive for the 17k rebate and 50 dollars rrebate

my opinion is this is the most cost effective, unless ur coy is paying u for ur transport

Damn

the problem wif cheap car prices n cheap coe now is tat its looks damn attractive on the surface but the 10 yr loan is death trap

my friend was tellin wif 10yr loan car is damn affordable only 400plus a mth, even earning at 1k-2k is enuff

i told him, ya, it sure looks affordable on the surface, but 10 yr loan u gotta commit at least 6-7yrs for the car to breakeven

unless u r army regular or wad, i dun think anyone can gurantee they be employed for the next 6-7 yrs, they wont fall sick, family wont be in crisis for that time

there are cases in car forums pple get retrench 2-3yrs into the ownership of car, cant afford instalments, have to sell car, but are slapped wif a topup of up to 30grand jus to get rid of the car

Fully second your comments Ah Tee.

This has been highlighted over and over again by the forumers here.

Dont go squeezing yourself just to "rent" a car.

Then again, it is cheaper than actually renting.

No, don't buy a car unless you really need it. And how many Singaporeans actually "need" a car? I dare say less than 50% of the drivers on the road today. Still remember SM Goh (or was it PM Lee) said that the COE system is there to restrict the number of vehicles, yet allow Singaporeans to "fulfill the dream of owning a car". How true.

is it to fullfil a dream to own car or to fulfill their dream to pay more to their pocket?!

i dont have cl3....so i cant comment much....i somehow agree with ah tee that ride a bike for daily tpt but get an OPC for nite/weekend usage....

however, even for OPC, its still a 10yr loan, cos OPC dont have much re-sale value might as well max out the loan period...but at the same time having a bike (depending on if the bike still on instalment)...still have to pay both bike/car, insurance/road tax and petrol....

ultimately, if earning below 2k, below 25yrs of age....is it benificial to do that?!

for me, bike/car is for tpt only....i ride a wave....which is 2nd hand, no instalment, just pay 1800 3yrs back and im happy....even now i have cl2A, im not looking to buy a 2A bike new or cost more than 2K....i be happy to buy a cheap 400cc bike which is more than 10yr or near 10yrs to ride for daily usage....

im learning my cl3 now....but i seriously only plan to buy those 8-9yrs car to drive to get around.....

no, im not rich at all....and im much older le....still i dont earn enuf or have the intention to have a car.... just my thoughts...

Posted

if earning below $2k, plse dont think of buying car.

not wise as it is equivalent to killing youself slowly.

Dude, I dont work in ORchard, i work in Suntec.

Motorbike may still be alright but cycling under Singapore's treacherous weather is a no no for my kind of job which requires one to dress well.

breakeven is when your outstanding loan is the market price of your car...

where you can sell the car without having to fork out money...
