Just got my '01 SV650. It revs pretty nice, and has plenty or torque. However I noticed that the suspensions are on the soft side, and they don't take potholes well. Is that a known problem, or are my suspensions busted? The preload is just nice for me.

Also, I heard that there is a problem that can cause our SV to run on only the back cylinder. How do we detect it?

Thanks in advance! I am enjoying the ride!

The problem normally occurs normally when you start your bike. You can tell by listening; one cylinder would be chumping away and the other would be relatively silent. A short stint of warmup should fix the problem.

I'm assuming my rear shocks are the same as the 650. You can try adjusting your shocks if you think it is too soft.

I think the 650 and 650S share the same rear shock.

I read up about the "single-cylinder" problem and it occurs when your SV (both S and non-S) is in heavy rain. Water seep through the front spark plug seal into the cylinder and causes misfiring or non-firing. It usually persists for as long as the cylinder is wet. There is a "drain hole" somewhere on the front cylinder that gets clogged up easily due to road dirt. We're supposed to clear it using pipe cleaner, and also change the plug seal.

However, I don't even know the difference between the sounds of one cylinder working and both. Total newbie to v-twins here...

mine's a 400, not a 650...that's why I was assuming :)

runnertypeR got an extended mudguard to prevent the problem from happening...you might want to consider doing the same thing..

anyway...sweet looking bike :thumb:
