One I.Q question for a sleepy midweek afternoon.

 

1. You are given a large box which contains 3 identical looking helmets.

Only one of them is a authentic brand new and good Arai helmet, the other 2 are helmets are lousy chiong Aral ones.

 

2.You are asked to choose one, and if you can get the Arai, it will be yours to keep.

 

3. Lets say that you have made your initial choice, then I tell you that among the 2 helmets that you did not choose, I will remove 1 which is a chiong Aral.

After I removed it, I give you another opportunity to reject your initial choice and change your selection. At this point you are only left with 2 helmets, one chiong Aral and one authentic Arai. You do not know if the one which you have initially chosen is the authentic Arai that you ought to want.

 

The question is: will it be better or worse to accept the 2nd opportunity to change your choice? Or will it be no different?

 

Pls also explain your answer.

 

Mathematically speaking, should change your mind cause the initial decision was based on 1 in 3 chance, second attempt is based on 1 in 2.

 

But the first pick is redundant leh, cause no matter what you will take away one helmet right? I would consider first pick as anyhow whack, there was only one senario, the one in two attempt, which is the second attempt.

 

I would take the second try, not because it presents a better mathematical chance, but because the first pick was to humour you so you would present the actual attempt for me to pick the helmet :angel:

53.6% of total sample are virgins

46.4% are not.

 

Arts have the most non virgins in 86% of their respondents.

All those who polled from SDE are all virgins.

Engine is next with 5.36% non virgins.

 

45.7% of non virgins claim they do not use protection.

64% claimed they engage in sexual activities more than once a week.

 

Most popular place is Hall. Followed by toilets. Some others include YIH student lounge and the Dungeon.

 

63.7% said they have enough sex education.

33.3% of male said they receive their sex education from friends, movies and internet.

3 possible answers only.

In order that you maximize your chances of getting the Arai helmet, its

-better to change

-worse to change

-no difference to change

 

How CS? which is your answer?

 

 

1st situation

Define 3 events.....

 

Let A be the event that we chose Arai helmet

Let B be the event of choosing one box

 

P(B)=1/3

P(A)=1/3

 

P(A given B) = P(A|B) = (P(AnB))/P(B) = (1/3)/(1/3) = 1

 

2nd situation

Let A be the event that we chose Arai helmet

Let B be the event of choosing one box

 

P(B)=1/2

P(A)=1/2

 

P(A given B) = P(A|B) = (P(AnB))/P(B) = (1/2)/(1/2) = 1

 

So based on the same probability of both the situation....its pretty clear tat there is no difference to change.

 

 

PS : Prob = 1 means u definitely will get it....but thats not the issue here....its whether got diff to change....

 

 

 

 

A challenge for the rest

 

Prove by induction that this is true for infinity boxes of helmets
