check your rocker cover(engine top cover) and see it is leaking from the rockers...this is a common area of leak for sportster. You can arrange for the seals to be changed off during your servicing...and do check your oil level to make sure it is not running low from this leak you are experiencing

Great! Thanks for the prompt response. At least I know what the issue is now. I will check the oil level later and go for an early service if necessary.

Well, I went to check out that bike B4 I post a WTB in this thread. Wasted my time viewing that bike...condition is real bad. Jammed throttle cable, bald tires, broken gear shift lever, bent clutch lever, scratched engine casing due to self skided, very deep scratch on the edge of the rear rims. I wouldn't buy it even at 15k. Anyways, I booked my spanking new XR1200X this morning. Woohooo!!!!

Hi guys, I'm afraid I need some help with troubleshooting my Sportster again. I attempted to take the bike out to get some supper just now and while the fuel pump and everything looked normal, the moment I pressed the starter, everything shut off(ie. headlight, display, indicators)

I turned the key to the off position and waited several minutes before trying again. The same thing happened. On the third try I couldn't even get the headlight to function.

Just yesterday, everything was functioning normally. I was considering push starting the bike but it's FI so I dont think that would work.

I intend to tow it to Sunhog tomorrow to get the problem rectified but could anyone give me a clue as to what the issue might be? Battery? Ignition coil? Would appreciate any help as I'm totally new to the HD family and don't know much about HD internals.

It's less than 3 years old with 4 digit mileage on the clock so I'm really quite annoyed that something like that has happened.

My guess is dead batteries...

Hmm, I'm hoping it's dead batteries, but the thing that felt weird was that the headlight and display looks strong. Isn't one of the symptoms of a dying battery weak headlights and displays? Keeping my fingers crossed that it's a battery issue :(

You cant push start with Fuel Injected. Anyway, try to check the connector on the battery, cause sometimes due to vibration, it came loose. If that doesnt work, just bring it to workshop and get it check.

It cranked 1-2 times before suddenly cutting off. Anyway, I'll get the bike towed to the mech and keep my fingers crossed maxxmadness is right and it's a flat battery.

TBH, I'm not very pleased with the way Sun Hog operates. Seems a bit inefficient and dodgy(I have been trying to get a quote for a double disc conversion and have already asked 7 times without getting a straight answer. Heck I couldn't even find out the rough ball park price for the service charge). It's just that I don't really know any other good mechanic since Tony told me he wasn't accepting any new jobs, and right now, it's kinda tough to get the tow truck to go to a place I'm not familiar with.

Thanks for all the help though guys. Now to get this settled!

Why dont you try to take the battery out and head over to a shop that can test the battery to see if flat. Save a tow. These batteries dont last long 2-3 years in our SG heat.

Thanks guys.

I managed to get the problem rectified already. Turned out, it wasn't the battery but an issue with the circuit breaker sensor. I asked Chris at Sunhog about the minor oil leak also and he told me that i need to replace the entire rocker cover which would amount to about 300 dollars. TBH I'm quite annoyed because it seems to me that only the seals need replacement and not the entire rocker cover.

Any recommendations for a place I can go to for a 2nd opinion?

Thanks,

Tim

Isit with Harleys only tat FI can't push start?

my 10th bike then, Kawasaki ZX12R (00) is a FI bike & i have no problem push starting the bike at 2nd or 3rd gear.

My another ride shared with my bro is a CBR1000RR (05), once had a issue with the stator coil (they are notorious for that) & I push started the bike as well...

So I see no issues with push starting a FI bike...

Please enlighten ....

Cheers

Typical idoitic answer form sunhog...

they are meant for Rich guys not me & not You maybe (hence his attitude)

I did had a bad bad experience with them too....

Just screw them, there are many Harley Pro shops around & as said before my $$$ is on Sun brust Ah Yee....

Also there is a new Harley Pro Shop opening in Toh Guan area by 2 previous Harley Agent Mechs...

Any one has any clues about that?

Cheers!!!

You can try Combine Motor at Sin Ming Auto Point. I think they are pretty good. :)

Yup Combine Motor Ah Hock has good reputation points on doing Harleys & it is one of the non Harley Pro shop as they do other bikes...

Any way Harleys are very simple & durable engine. With a good manual & a set of tools, It can be a very hands-on thing...

Cheers!!!
