Sounds good. My brake pads are not due for change yet but I thinking of changing to better one for safety reason. Twins have other brands of brake pads?

to all bro here. please stop posting on the day and when we are meeting up for ride. I believe one fine night, there will be a checkmate operation somewhere.... so please be reminded, do not post anything on which day the riders are gathering for ride. SMS instead

 

anyway i just don't like the idea of posting complaints or information on this forum. This forum is acessible to the public, I believe people are monitoring information provided on this forum by us. Indirectly we are feeding information to them to make them even more smarter or provide them with ideas. i realised that there is no point complaining, nothing can be done ultimately. Either we ride like crinimals or give up. Sad to say that.

 

I believe there is something we can do.. its just whether we as a community ie: riders, want to at least make an "effort" to influence or create an awareness to both the authorities or general public that what we do is nothing more than harmless self expression. Yes i agree loud pipes are a public nuisance. but to penalize us for signal lights and headlamps is just ridiculous.. to me it borders on abuse of authority. What harm do bullet signal lights do to the general public or the rider?

It really doesn't help that we submit so easily either, And this just contradicts what being a Harley rider really is. As it is, we Singaporeans are renowned for being submissive and afraid to step on toes of the authorities. Yes laws were manufactured to be vague, it is in my opinion for us then to clarify with them and to convince them that we can all come to a compromise... if not individually, then as a group. A group of Singaporean riders that try for a change to ride as Harley riders in the truest essence and not just because we look good riding a Harley, which Im sure we all do... looking real good riding our Harleys I mean.

I remember a thread in this forum some time back...in 2007 or 2008, where this dude actually emailed LTA and eventually, LTA was willing to meet with the rider and some other people who might be interested for a dialogue. I thought it was interesting and I actually respected LTA for that willingness to have a dialogue. However, nothing materialized and the thread started to fade away.

 

If a dialogue were to be held, it has to be constructive. It is more then criticizing blindly without any solutions. It is a good platform to understand the logic and rational behind the ancient rules and autocratic style of enforcement, as well as present viable solutions that will not adversely affect the whole of society. If it is for the greater good, I'm all for it. But what is the greater good anyway?

 

A reason why no one dares to speak out might be because of a small group of individuals who would misuse the system or refuses to comply, the very small group generating a very bad image of Harley riders. Not all of us are total angels. As such, it is difficult for one to stand up and speak for the whole community when not the whole of the community agrees with him/her. Some brothers believe that this is the way it is and live with it the outlaw way. Some people know this is the way and give up. Some people don't believe this is the way and the legal way is the only way. Some people don't believe anything at all. It is an arduous task to maintain a stand on behalf of so many individualistic riders. Whatever other peoples' believes, i believe it can be done WITHOUT any sedition. This is important. Not only because Singapore is non tolerant towards sedition but I truly believe sedition is not constructive at all and is destructive.

 

Some more so many people are so angry now. Angry people say wrong things because their minds are not clear. I know that because I get angry all the time hahaha.

 

Fact is, everyone else is just waiting for anyone else to speak up. Individual complaints is not gonna help much. Constructive feed back is another thing altogether, but sometimes, people can't tell the difference between the two, and that's dangerous be it the receiving end or vice versa.

There has to be a way to get through to the relevant authorities to let them know we are not just a bunch of loco attention seeking anarchists.. we ride because we love riding and we love our bikes. And because we love our bikes, we want our bikes to express who we are personally, and to do that, we modify. As long as the modifications don't harm the general public eg: "bullet signal lights" and "spring single seats" then let us express ourselves. Authoritative bureaucracy isnt the only way. i dont think there will be a ride pass by HOG on national day from this year onwards, then again maybe it because of past years ride pass that ministers start to questions each other why HD so noisy and allowed on SG roads, questioned LTA and thus that got us into this state..rule lumpar 1: abstain from showing off

I know that everyone has more important agenda to think about in their lives. But this topic has been consuming my thoughts. Pls go to http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php/331462-LTA-on-Harley-Davidson-Exhaust. I am a proud owner of a Harley Davidson bike. Looking at this thread really confirms LTA's double standards in dealing with luxury car owners and bike owners. LTA's has recently stepped up on spot checks on Harley bike owners illegal modifications to our bikes especially our unique but to LTA very loud exhausts. However it is very obvious that there are double standards as you do not see Ferraris and other super luxury cars constantly being hounded by LTA enforcers on the road. Or is it just that LTA cannot afford to have enforcement cars just as power to chase down these owners?

 

I apologise for my sarcasm, but LTA is not forthcoming and transparent on such things as the effort to keep to modern times. Singapore is becoming more affluent and it will be natural you will see more luxury bikes and cars. And although I agree that illegal modifications that endanger lives and the environment should be kept in place, but I do not think that a Harley bike fitted with an aftermarket exhaust is louder than a Lamborghini with a factory fitted exhaust.

 

And I have read forum posts by bikers on the futile efforts to get LTA to change theirs minds on cosmetic modifications after writing multiple times and getting the same generic 'no'. I think its time to relook at how you define illegal modification LTA. 'Not factory/manufacturer fitted', 'not to manufacturer specifications', 'will endanger the environment' are not detailed or good enough excuses.

 

At the very least, programs with vehicle dealers to help them get certain equipment 'legalized' at a lower cost and with much less processes would be good.

 

I know there you can never persecute every single offending car or bike owner with illegal modification, but please, please do not exercise bias. Bike owners are just as Singaporean as Porche/Lamborghini/Ferrari car owners. We want our bikes to look and sound good. Sometimes factory fitted just does not make the cut.
