I owned a Sportster before and I still like it especially those rubber mounted ones. Sad to say I am a little oversize for that model. I am still very tempted to get one 04'883 and done up to my expectation. I always got this little craze about doing up bike to my desire organism ...

From your info, I am quite surprise to know that Heritage Softail started fuel injection in 2001 ... ... ... :)

Same Same but different

Actually I moved to the Softail because it is far more suited to my size - enjoy the comfort and down low power miss the agility and nippiness. Progressive shocks on the Sporty makes a huge improvement particularly if you often ride two up or in Malaysia. I have spoken to many larger Sporty riders who have done the same and will agree.

Yes it is 2nd Gen EFI on the 01 model. I believe they were first introduced on the Heritage Classic in 2000.

Its been a while since this thread was active.

Anyone got recommendations for Sportster tyres? My rear is going bald already.

Think you won't go wrong with a Dunlop Elite. Heard that this model can yield good mileage. :)

Sound like only. Actually this model doesn't last very long. I am using it currently and it is going bald soon at 20,000KM for a year plus old.

the metzeler is cheaper but doesn't last as long as the dunlop. metzeler is stickier then the dunlop also so it has more grip on the road. there are a few other brands also la like Avon and all but dunno hows the review.

Ah Fai new brid ah? new brids won't use those pipes! :p

It's your damn bike, wash it yourself! You rinse your own mouth after you eat, don't you?

Avon Venom is a lot cheaper than Metzeler Marathons when I last checked with Chong Aik but too bad they don't have my tyre specs. though. In regards to their performance on cruiser, no idea because they are mostly popular with Sportbike owner.

Hello.. I already ordered the bike in July and sadly won't be able to buy it as my circumstances have changed. Only got to know last week that my wife is expecting..thus won't be riding anymore. Already paid the booking fee of $1000 to HD Dealer. Anyone interested to take over the purchase? The bike has still not arrive yet and the color is black. Thanks.

Speaking from what my opinions and what I encountered.

The original HD Dunlop tyre rear last me around 17k, properly can stretch till 18k but I just drop the idea because I don't like the feel of the Dunlop rubbers.

That is very short mileage! An Ang Moh told me his Dunlop Elite last three times the mileage compare to my Metzeler Marathons. :giddy:

hmmm... so I gather that I can get my Sporty's tyre changes at the following places?

1) SunBurst

2) Custom Cycles

3) HD Agent

4) Chong Aik?

What about Rosli?

Although Metzeler may not last as long as but is good for leading some angle and better on wet.

yeah... my rear stock dunlop is almost bald already, & its just 16,000km

oddly enough, the front looks like it can still last for a while...

Chong Aik only supply tyre but not the tyre changing service.

Yes. Rosli too. :)

Hmm...odd enough but, is it a Dunlop Elite as stock for your Harley? Seem like Metzeler Marathons yield a better mileage and value for money.

My Stock Dunlop lasted 22k Klm on my FLSTCI changed to the Dunlop SE 150 (Stock was 130). So far the ride and traction is better than the stock Dunlop - seems softer so I don't know how long it will last though.

There is no need to be at any specific bikeshop as long they know how to dismantle Harley wheels with proper tools.

Know the sizes and type of rubbers you want can just fix, do wheel balancing and is ready go. :)

That's true, but I'll feel better going to mechanics with a track record for Harleys :) (& imperial tool sets)
