well before even getting aftermarket exhaust, why not ride the current to fully use the power get use to the ergonomics and stuff. you will be amazed the handling for a stock.

PS: more power doesn always mean faster at corners.

First of all understand the physics. Its a 20 year old, air cooled, de-tuned small bored V-twin modified from a 600cc engine for the Japanese market.

If its speed you want, get a liquid cooled inline4 bike. The Monster M400 will only frustrate if you keep squeezing every bit of power out of it.

Fuel consumption about 15 to 19 km/l. Top speed about 160-170 km/h. Maintenance is ok, just have to be religious if you don't want problems.

Much knowledge lies in the previous threads if you look through them.

Cheers

Hey dude,

I get about 300km on full tank (98) for around $20 on my M4. Compare that to my Phantom 150 at $12 for 200km (not much diff).

I do my own oil change and other basic tweaks.

Yes labour fees for duc maintenance is HIGH as compared to other bikes, so that's why I chose to learn about the bike and do the maintenance myself.

This way, I don't need to

1. make appt to send my bike in

2. Lose my bike for a day or two or more for a simple adjustment (shop is ALWAYS busy!)

3. Pay any unnecessary costs (like the labour fees imposed on the BRAND which is ridiculous to me)

I gain

1. Much knowledge esp in knowing more about my bike (I didn't know anything about motorcycles before my duc!)

2. Realised that the maintenance work is not that hard once you try it out.

3. Notice more detail on my bike and able to make tweaks and tricks anytime w/o having to surrender my bike and be without it

4. SATISFACTION!

http://www.ducatisuite.com/ is a good place to start. Although his bike is a Monster 750, most of the sections work for the 400 as well. Try it and you'll get hooked to it.. and you will appreciate and love your bike more :)

Cheers Ducateers!

Hey Kish!

I just got back from Austria. While I was in Salzburg, I visited Ducati Salzburg and got a belly pan from there. They only had one in stock!!! What luck I thought. It cost me € 125 (abt $258). A bargain from those selling on the net I think. They even wanted to spray paint for me but I didn't have 3 days to wait, so I took it in red from the shop, packed it in my suite case and brought it home. Now it's waiting in my room to get finely-sanded (details baby) and sprayed YELLOW! Also got a Corse transparent tank pad. They don't have much stuff for 400 :(

Will post photos when I get it fixed and good luck with the Super4 pan mod. 40 bucks is real cheap man!

Cheers Ducateers!

Hey dude,

Could you take a photo of your belly pan and post it up here?

I was wondering if we could borrow it to make a mould out of it to fabricate it?

Then we can do a MO for those who are keen in it. Just an idea.

I doubt the Super 4 belly pan thing will work.

anyone tried removing the baffles on their stock muffler for m400? i intend to do mine halfway in. should add more horsepower without installing slip-ons. guess it should be almost legal if we dont overdo it... just a thought

Dreamed I was a muffler. Woke up exhausted.

if the price for the belly is gd then i am in..

Bro who is finding out more on duke....Pls know that a veetwin is not for speed. its for twisties, torque and handling usually. I cannot say that I am expert but I have been converted to twin rider since 2003 =4yrs. You will really appreciate the handling more than concern about BHP.

Saying that, I think surgery on the stock pipes are a good idea not just for BHP but also flow and maybe weight???lol

Anyone else besides Kish who wants to try removing baffles? Think its slightly legal.. car owners have done this for years.. I'll go find out how much it costs and how much down-time.

Even better handling with slightly wider handlebars... My opinion anyway. I'm using GPR ones. Bike feels lighter and more mobile.

There's a tiny bit of problem! It does not fit!!! Dammit!

The belly pan I got came from Diopa.com sold at Ducati Salzburg. I tried to fix it last night but it does not fit. Then I visitied Diopa's website and realised that my pan was cut differently from the one they show on their site. I'll post pictures later.

http://www.diopa.com/Shop/images/d0250.gif

Notice the 90 degree cut on the right? Mine is curved all the way up. Post pics tonight. I may need to shave off more before fitting it.

Sigh!

Cheers Ducateers!

I kinda find the term "slightly legal" kinda cute. Not sure why... maybe i'm just being conservative or a plain worry wart. You guys might wanna explore this further before going all the way :) All the best.
