I believe that the black plastic ones are for those bikes before 2000. The newer ones are metal and silver. Personally I like the blck ones, tho my ex-bike came with the silver one.

 

Tried to chase a S4R today, bugger was fast .. sheares bridge, 8.15 a.m.

Its been a while since i posted in here, how is everyone? Daron, your new monster paintjob looks damn nice man! Do bring your bike on an outing with Sebastian one day, i would love to meet up with you and see it!

On the bike front, nothing much to update you guys with, except that i decided to not take chances with running my illegal Staintune exhausts anymore (even though the look and sound is wonderful to me). I went window shopping for a while, but the best thing i could come across was motoworld asking me for $1800 for a pair of high mount Remus pipes which was a little hard for me to swallow, until i found out Michael was actually a dealer for Akrapovic/GPR exhausts! And gave me a great deal on a pair of street-legal GPR high mounts. I'll be happy to post pics and my impressions of it here later!

mmm anyway I had some free time today, so polished up my new paint job. I also whipped out my autosols and tried to work it. Seemed like no effect leh. Mmm am I doing it wrong. I apply the autosols on a cloth, rub rub rub buff buff buff, then rub off with another cloth.

Oh dear, my certificate for the street legal GPR pipes arent ready yet so i didnt go to KC today...so sorry 900despair! I'm dropping by tomorrow afternoon to get the pipes adjusted though, so i'll check up for you then. its a black monster 900 right?

 

Anyway just a heads up for the bros here, in case anyone is shopping around for streetlegal exhausts, might save you some legwork here:

 

Remus Titanium Highmount (with carbon fibre heat shield) - $1800 @ motoworld

Remus Aluminium Lowmount - $1400 @ motoworld

GPR Stainless Steel Highmount (with carbon fibre heat shield) (pics below) - $1350 @ Kallang Cyle

 

I also got word from Mike that he apparently is a dealer for Akrapovic as well although i didnt ask about the range he carries.

 

Pricing is up to date as of a few days ago. Of course standard disclaimers apply about what price you actually end up paying (could be less, could be more)

 

My quick review of the GPR:

Overall fit and finish: Very sturdy, not too heavy. Noticably lighter than my chrome staintunes. This is with respect to the muffler weight only of course. Adding the highmount header, it is heavier. Carbon heat shield is awesome at heat insulation, never gets more than a little warm to touch. They are mounted a little higher than your standard high mount exhausts, i like the look. Getting them to sit symmetrically is a little difficult though. Mike was fiddling with it for more than an hour yesterday and still hasnt got it completely right yet. Which is why i'm dropping by again tomorrow

 

Sound: Sigh....its a legal pipe...so you can more or less guess what the sound would be like. The sound is deep, and bassy, more like a growl, where my staintunes were much like a roar. With the noise restrictors on the staintunes removed, they easily set off car alarms in multistorey carparks and usually people about 100m in FRONT of me on the street could hear my bike (i know cos they keep turning around LOL). I have to get used to the more silent tone i suppose. Mike says the silencer can be removed quite easily, and once removed, leaves no visual sign of it on the pipe itself. So its an option if you want to get louder, albeit at the cost of legality

 

Price: Its the price which made me go for these, i dont think highmount pipes get any cheaper that this. they are cheaper than the lowmount remuses!

 

Power: Compared to the staintunes, the bike's character has changed quite a lot (more than i expected). The staintunes are low end killers, amazing grunt at lower revs. The GPRs are much weaker in the low end but give a MUCH better top end. So it doesnt sprint off the lights as well as it used to but the gears feel longer now and past about 50km/h it smokes the staintunes.

The bad: The direct answer to your question is no. You cant mount those under the seat...not without a lot of hammering of the header hehehe

 

The good news: GPR already makes an underseat exhaust! Its called the Scottodone series...but there is a cost: You lose the ability to carry a passenger or sidebags....IMO...the tradeoff is well worth it (it looks that good!). I showed Mike the pics of it and he knows even less than i do about it. your best bet is to call the distributor and tell him to order the pipes in and sell it to you thru Mike.
