I have taken some temperature reading on various location of my FJR1300 using a remote temperature scanner.

I think these readings might be of interest to many people including STX1300 and ST 1100 riders to compare with something more measurable instead of just saying our machine is “Hot”, “Very Hot”, “Furnace”, “Family jewels being roasted”, etc;

I hope someone who rides a STX1300 or a ST1100 can do the same so that we can compare “Notes” so to speak.

I rode my bike for about half an hour that night and took all these reading while the engine running, temperature on bike indicating between 3 and 4 bars, engine radiator fan cutting in and out, petrol tank at half full. My bike is using fully synthetic engine oil (Royal Purple) that I replaced about two months ago. Everything on the bike is original except the spark plugs that I replaced to Iridium plugs. This is simulating a traffic jam situation when our bike is at its hottest.

The temperature of the measured area fluctuates quite fast; I took the temperature at its peak, meaning highest recorded temperature.

Below I attached 2 pictures of a FJR (right and left side) with the exact location where I took my readings. Please note that the readings taken on the exhaust manifold (some people call the extractor) nearest the engine block is the hottest with temperature ranging from 274 degrees C ( Radiator fan cuts in at 4 bar ) and lowest at 137 degree C ( Radiator fan cuts out at 3 bar ).

well done!!

Engine heat at 137 to 274 C, it that high or low?

Seem quite high to me, I have a temp gauge showing that my engine max is 140 C. But anyway, I remembered Mobil 1 ever advertised many years ago showing a man walked out of fire with 2 plates of oil measuring at 700C, Mobil 1 still flow like liquid and another "no brand" is starting to form sludge. So, good oil can withstand heat & most spore bikes are using super good engine oil, so, not a problem I guess.

True of false? You decide but understand if major oil company dare to make such statement, it should be true. Too risky to damage their reputation and facing lawsuit esp in U.S.

Well done, rebornrider, thanks for your info.

Since he measured the other spots at 40-50 degrees should be celcius. I can't imagine a riders seat to be 50 degrees F, can you?

273 degrees is freaking freaking hot for a bike engine...

This explains a lot...

I paid S$150 for it. It comes in a pair. It comes in handy especially you're going for a long trip. You need not detach your side panniers once your reached your destination. Just stow, retrieve and go. Cool man. I ordered thru Loois Motor.

Yes, I did recorded it as below 40 degrees C.

The bike was just idling for some time and I concentrated recording the hotter parts of the engine such as the exhaust manifold which was very hot to get the most accurate reading.

By the time I came to the exhaust pipe (end can) I think it has cool down a lot.

Which explain the lower temperature.

Anyway the exhaust is at the back of the rider and therefor I think it's temperature is not so critical to us.

It doesn't make any difference whether a motorcyclist has the right-of-way or not, the rider is the one most likely to get hurt.

It took 1.5 month to arrive into Singapore. The name of the item is call "Panniers Liner" . Good for keeping your inner panniers away from dings and scratches.

Hello everyone,

I will be purchasing an FJR1300 1st hand, any tips or advice to give little poor inexperienced me :help: For example where to buy it from? lowest interest rates? best & most recognised FJR dealer?

I am an avid tourer. Rode up to Koh Samui farthest. Hatyai once every year. Penang, KL very often. Please feel free to drop by my Yahoo groups Enduro_Junkies. I have ridden 2 ZX11 D1 and D3, R1, XL1000V, and currently riding a Suzuki Burgman 650. I have been riding Bikes for more than 11 years now this FJR will be my 17th bike. I am 28 Yrs Old.

I am torn between the new GSXR1000K6 and the FJR1300 but i am more inclined to get the FJR as the reviews are quite good but i find the insurance kills you at $1,100 (1st party) a year and road tax at $500/- a year is really just too ex for a bike. more over the 1.3L engine bike on SGP road is a bit of an overkill. moreover how many times a year can you tour to West malaysia that would require you to purchase an FJR 1.3L $26,000 Bike? Please tell me good things about this bike to offload my mind of these 4 negative points i just mentioned. Please help.

Tamhid aka Vara, Your FJR accessories still up for Sale? i tried calling you but no answer, SMSed you also got no reply. Interested in the headlight protector and tank BRA Thanks

Hi,

You might want to refer to our earlier thread on why we chosed FJR. I'm sure you will have a better idea by then. Ride safe and Welcome.
