THIS is Yamaha's new MT-07, revealed in Milan tonight.

 

The all-new model is a 689cc parallel twin to take on the likes of Kawasaki's ER-6N and ER-6F, as well as Suzuki's SFV650 and SV650S.

 

It makes a claimed 74.8hp and 50.1lbft of torque, and weighs 179kg wet.

 

On paper those figures out-class the ER-6N, which makes 72.1hp, 47.2lbft and weighs 204kg wet. It also does for the Suzukis, with 71hp, 47.2lbft and kerb weights of 196kg for the SV and 205kg for the SFV.

 

The MT-07 has a diamond steel frame and right-way-up forks with 130mm of travel.

 

It's got twin front 282mm brake discs and a 245mm rear. The seat height is 805mm and the fuel tank 14 litres.

 

Price has yet to be announced but if the £6,799 MT-09 is any guide, it should be competitive.

 

Yamaha says in a release:

'Handlebar-mounted digital instruments

 

'The high-tech instruments are mounted directly on top of the handlebars to give the rider a clear view of the road ahead. The easy-to-read LED display includes a gear position indicator and fuel gauge, and a bar-type tachometer features its tallest bars in the 4,000 to 8,000 rpm band where the strongest torque can be found.'

it'll be avail in Feb 2014 for Europe, so perhaps March for SG? the price for them would be 5200 pounds, so SG maybe around $15k otr?

No of cylinders has nothing to do with price.

Examples...

• BMW GS1200LC horizontal opposed 2 cylinder is $38k

• Yamaha Super Tenere XT1200Z parallel twin was $34k (now 2013 clearing stock at $28k)

• Triumph Thruxton 2 cylinder $26k

And others like BMW F800 series, Suzuki Vstroms, Ducatis......

personally, i think quite reasonable actually :)

i think it does have some effects though..for example, if this MT-07 is gonna be $15k otr, its gonna be cheaper than a Super 4.

 

on the other hand, theres so many things to consider in a bike..like their cc & so forth. how i wished those bike you mentioned were like below $20k..ahah

Anyway hope to get a naked bike on top of my 2012 r1. Looking at 600 to 800cc type but the new z1000 is also very tempting.

Anyway hope to get a naked bike on top of my 2012 r1. Looking at 600 to 800cc type but the new z1000 is also very tempting.

 

Power of the Z1000 is absolutely addictive. But if handling and mobility is of concern... The MT09 is something to seriously consider. The triple engine is nimble and yet torquey enough.

Had a feel of the riding posture, for me I would say it was more upright than the MT-09. The handle bar is not as wide as the MT-09 but nearer towards the rider. The seat was actually quite good..kinda gotta the gel-like feeling. & definitely, lighter than the MT-09 but I have a feel that its not gonna be as agile as the niner cause the handle seems kinda 'loose' if I got the right word..perhaps due to the shorter bars or conventional forks.

 

Nonetheless, it was still an eye-pleaser bike.

 

Price was almost $20k otr thanks to the bloody COE hike -.-

Hope OTR will be "capped" at 20k eventually. Heard that coe poised to rise to 6K region & stabilize there.

Glad that HL brought it in. Was actually keen on the new Honda 500 series but seems like Sin will only have the 400 jdm instead, to which I'm disappointed.

 

Only thing is that personally I prefer the sound of cylinders that are fired at even intervals.
