Yo biking nomad....so wats ur plan?...1st or 2nd link.

time of departure?....mind sharing with us?

Bro greysnail,

Most likely is myself and a fren going.

We stay north side so planning to enter by Causeway.

Probably, leaving home at 6 am. Hope to be on highway by 7 am latest.

I am very keen to go but still waiting for confirmation from my friend. If the plan suits u, I wouldn't mind the company. Wil only be able to confirm abt 1st week of Oct.

I'm planning to buy tickets at Sepang. Going for the k1 grandstand. Package is advertised as rm50.

ANy suggestions which place is best to catch the action and which carpark to park?

Someday, home will be where my front wheel points.

It is not advisable to watch from the K1 stand.. Best is buy the Main Grandstand ticket @ RM80 coz almost everyone will be there and can watch the race from the last turn where we can also see almost half the circuit from there whereas the K1 stand can onli see 3 corner..

Guys please refer to the links below for more info on the programme at Sepang..

I have ridden my SP to Sepang back in '05 to watch MotoGP and my bike back then functioned without too much problems.

Basically, it's generally good to note down n do these things:

Tyres & Brakes

- Get it checked. Are they worn out? Best if you can get the widest-sized ones your bike can be installed with.

- Inspect the tyres for any object embedded into it, such as nails, razors, pins, etc. Best if ya bring along a tyre repair kit and learn how to use it.

- Brakes - Are the brakepads worn? If they're worn to the wear-line (i.e. ya can't see the groove anymore), replace. Once replaced, run them in by riding and braking the day/2 days before the trip.

- Any difficulties in engaging the brakes? If so, have your braking systems flushed and topped up with new brake fluid. Ya front must provide ya with a good amount of braking force at 130KM/H, the rear maybe some (that's how bike braking systems are made anyways)

Note: Apply what the training centres taught ya about braking. Never ever jam the brakes. Apply them fairly quickly and gradually increase the braking force. It's not good to skid. If wet, distance yourself away from cars. I never use the rear brake on my SP when wet -- it had locked-up my rear wheel once when it was wet and the bike skidded.

Fuel system

- Any sign of petrol leakage?

- Petrol filter cleaned? This is the strainer-like thing which filters out dirt from the petrol before it goes into the carburetor

- Carburetor cleaned?

Lubricated systems

- 2T intake settings increased yet? If it's on the stock settings, note the settings and set it a bit higher. Sometimes, ya might feel the need to go speeds of 130...that's moderately fast for an SP on the North-South expressway. Don't wanna suffer piston seizure halfway down the road (touch wood)

- Chain lubed? If not, ensure you ride your SP for 5 minutes the day before to get the chain warm. Then park it for the day and lube the chain. On the day itself, bring one can of lube to lubricate, and a paint brush to brush away any accumulated dirt

Engine Cooling Systems

- Coolant - Has it been flushed out and topped up with fresh new coolant yet? If you don't intend to do so, your SP will still function -- basically, ya ask yourself this question: Were there times where the bike temperature gauge always linger or exceed the 3/4 mark? If so, go for a full coolant systems check

- Coolant leaks - Are there any? If so, ya must get it checked and rectified before ya go.

Electrical Systems

- Fuses - take note of the current fuses installed. Buy extras for them and bring them along just in case.

- Make sure your battery is strong. If you notice upon key-ignition-on, that the headlights are dim and ya always need to kick-start a lot of times, check the battery voltage readings.

Kick start once and read.

10.5 to 12.5v when engine's not running is normal.

A reading of 8 - 9v, something's wrong with battery or charging systems

Change if necessary.

One more thing...after a long journey, let the engine run for a few minutes when you pull into a petrol kiosk. Never switch it off red-hot.

Well, that's my recommendations for today. The list is actually exhaustive; ya might wanna do somemore checks or maybe ask your favourite reputable bike mech to help ya.

Gd luck for ya trip

Not sure about whether this might help but my trip planner back then had this itinerary:

GP Esso - 0km

  • to Pagoh R&R / Petrol Stn - 141km
  • and then to Seremban R&R / Petrol Stn - 125km

Maybe ya wanna add one more stop in beteen GP Esso and Pagoh? (i.e. Machap)

Everything's assuming that an SP can travel 150km before it goes reserve -- that's the worse case scenario.
