Need help to retrieve data from external HDD,please help...

Please help guys, I bought a hitachi external 2.5' 60GB HDD. Now like spoil liao.When plug in the usb connection,my laptop(XP) able to detect and install and stated ready to use.

But then when open my computer,i dont see my external icon.The green light from the HDD turn red.I had tried on my fren pc oso the same....;(

I had save many data like my son pic/movies since birth.I know can claim warranty,but u guys know how to retrieve the pic/movies from it?Or can recommend any shop to do or any free lance guru able to help and i will pay certainly.

You need to get some hands on for this problem:

There is a jumper on the hard drive itself.

Take out the 2.5" hard drive out from its casing and pull out that jumper. Then store it in a safe place:

If you're unsure what a jumper looks like, it is that small black clip with tiny golden sockets and is displayed in the above picture, 3rd item from the bottom left.
