Query: Why is there a vast price difference for 2nd hand Shadow 400 and Steed 400?

This question has been in my mind for some time. Any Lao Jiao can enlighten me?

Both bike by honda, similar in many ways (cc, weight, cruiser, brand new price in the past)

For example:

A 2nd hand steed roughly 8 years old will go for $1.5k to $1.8k

A 2nd hand shadow of the same age will for maybe $3k or above ?

Demand is what I can think of in terms of end user and export market.

De Shadow is also bigger in size and for big size ppl like me hehehe..... will prefer a Shadow.

well bcos shadow looks way bigger than steed.... and its more like a "harley" hahaha...... i will choose a shadow any day over a steed... thats why i'm riding a shadow and willing to pay a premium for it.....

no offence to steed riders out there......

personal opinion bah......

hmm.. a steed is a lot better to mod than a shadow though...

steed more power, shadow more smooth.

After riding both, the shadow is definately more comfortable to ride and handles better than a steed.

If you are talking about Steed and Shadows of the early to mid nineties,

let the first few owners of Steed in Singapore tell you .....

the reason is becos Steed is a recon bike and Shadow is a production bike.

Recon means reconditioned, where the bike is not brand new rather reconditioned by changing parts that are worn out or not in good condition.

Steeds in the nineties in Singapore were all recon bikes shipped from Japan.

Then came the production Shadows which took over.

Engine is essentially the same. and so are the parts.

And they were brand new.

Both Steed and Shadow were originally 600cc bikes but due to market demand for 400cc, engine was bored down to 400cc instead of 600cc.

Engine frame and all other parts remain exactly the same for 400cc and 600cc Steed and Shadow.

Coming back to the present , many other brands of bikes also did the same due to the high demand for 400cc bikes.

eg. Kawa W400 / W650

Ducati M400 / M900

Yammy Dragstar

Suzuki Intruder

Now you know.......

steed and super 4 are very different bikes.

beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Any, if u ask in cruiser thread, we sure say cruiser.

Likewise if u do so in a Super4 thread.

Hi, i just bought a COE 96 Steed bcoz is cheap and the year of manufacture stated 1995 on the log card, is it mean that my bike is not a recond bike?

Btw how do you compare Steed and Dragstar?

may be thinking of getting one,

Guys pls give your valuable advice with many thanks. :p

Check your chassis for the yr of manufacture then check your reg date....

yours could be one of the very very very few production steeds that arrived on our shores in the mid nineties. After that, Shadows came.

Mid nineties Dragstar got problem with the fuel pump, dont know if it was rectified..............
