in Jun 2001, the COE suddenly dropped to $10k from about $30k, many many Civics had their COEs renewed becos it was only $10-11k compared to $30k.

Therefore there are many COE cars with COE expiring 2011 Jun to Aug period.

The PQP for 6/2001 was $22,557, 7/2001 was $19,480 and 8/2001 was $18,444. The other COE cars from other months were too expensive by comparison because they were about $30k -- better scrap them and get back the paper value.

These COE cars all basically have depreciation of $3.5k+- per year.

These included many Civic, Mazda MX5s, etc......

Not really. When you renew the COE the first time, you gave up the PARF. For a car with $15k OMV, you lose the $12k PARF you would have gotten back. And if you renewed the COE before it expired, you also lose the remaining value. If the COE was $15k (ranged from $5k to $20k in 91-93), you would have lost a further $1.5k (for the last year, say).

Many of my friends made money during those times becos they simply renewed the COE for their 8-9 yr old car with little paper value.

After that drove a few years more and sold it for $30k still.

There are many Singaporeans who don't bother to calculate the seller's profit margin.

We live in interesting times!

I apologised for my short memory on the actual prices of COE then, perhaps i didnt even remeber the price i sold my civic for correctly. But this I do clearly remember, the Paper value of the Civic + the renewed COE was about $35k range. I remember this round figure becos after i sold the car to him, i did a calculation of what it would cost him to renew the COE and kinda regretted that i sold the car. However as i was leaving the country, i didnt want any "baggage". PErhaps I should have renewed COE myself and pass the car to my girlfren to drive.

Of course you lose parf and whatever COE left as explained.

Let's say the parf is $15k and then the COE left is one year.

Include the scrap metal value as well. Total is still less than $20k.

Add the Aug 2001 COE renewal at the price you mentioned, the total cost of the Car is still less than $40k or less than $4k per year. The point I'm driving at is that after 16 yrs on the road, a car's depreciation cannot rightfully be looked at using the straightline method. Therefore $20k for a civic with 4 years may not be a good deal. Folks should not simply compare straightline depreciation of and old car with that of a newer car.

I agree, I sometimes call those people, goons. :cheeky:

Kan, you can consider the saloon instead of the hatch. Pricing is probably cheaper.

The hatch is really over priced becos there are many ricers who are paying prices which are not rational. especially for a car which is an expense. some people like to call it depreciating asset, heh.

Alternatively, review why you want to buy a car at this stage and dont make false excuses or reasoning for buying a car. It may not be necessary to begin with. Then you can save your money and get a better one some years down the road.......good luck with your decision anyway

For economical value, Vios sounds like a gd choice... But i personally dun like the exterior of it.. I mean the '07 model...

Though its a gd car... It seems like a taxi... hahaha

civic esi and eg6 which one is older ah?

Do a search in some search engine or wiki la :cheeky:

Basically both Civic ESi and EG6 are the same. Classified under the EG civic 1991-1996 gen. EG6 refers to the 3dr VTi model where the ESi is EG5 or EG8 for the 4dr.

It doesn't matter how good your bike is, but how long you can ride it

Performance doesn't lie on the bike, it boost when the ego broke!!

It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile...winning's winning..

Yup, COE EGs are common, but if you're lucky u can still get a reliable example with little or no mods. And since most will be gone by 2011, best is to drive one while you still can.
