Just pay for the device, no other fees required. With $800, you can easily get the top of the range garmin with all the bells and whistles.

For cars only, here is a guide.

garmin Nuvi 200 = $480

garmin Nuvi 310 = $590

garmin Nuvi 660 = $670

Basically Nuvi 660 has the biggest screen, and Nuvi 200 is the base model, same size as Nuvi310, but without built-in mp3 player. All have voice for directions, but only the higher range, has the ability of pronouncing street names. But they do sound funny on malay street names because they are all using english phonics. Go garmin site to read up their specs

Street level Maps for Singapore, East Malaysia, West Malaysia can be downloaded legally FOC at http://www.malsingmaps.com. These maps are very accurate with plenty of details, and they are updated frequently. They even mark stuffs like ERP, speed traps in Malaysia. Even 4x4 trails are available. if you were to buy original garmin mapsource maps, all these maps will easily cost you $400. I am not familiar with Europe maps, but usually other regions maps, such as USA, and Oz can be easily downloaded from the net but these are cracked version. Pay to use original or use with guilt, I can live with the latter.
