All they need to do is replace one golf course with a race track... and they can build one long enough to be of world class standard. Am sure they can do better than the present track in mind.

But golf courses are meant for the few rich geeks.

And bikers always seem to be and will always remain the second class citizens. Thats this island for you.

Don't be surprise if the track is exclusively meant only for the few filthy rich geeks driving the exotic cars. I foresee them even requiring membership fees just like the golf clubs here. If you are not member...don't even think of gaining access to watch even.

With the way the charges are for entry into the up and coming casinos...... nothing else can surprise me. Mark my words.

I will still go to Sepang and Pasir Gudang (if it is still around by then).

Money talks on this island. Period.

I honestly hope that I will be wrong in my assumptions.

Lets just hope that they will put someone who has done some form of motor racing experience or passionate enough about motor sports to be in charge of operations and policy making.

There is nothing worst than putting an MPV driving, golf club fraternising geek in charge of track operations and policies, simply because he has a Masters Degree in Business Admin from Harvard.

The management should know what are the drivers/riders needs and wants. But honestly do you think the management will listen to a bike rider or a car driver?

Things are the way they are on this island simply because toilet paper qualification and money talks.

But I REALLY hope I will be proven wrong and that the track will be opened to the bike riding public to use at reasonable rates and operations run with the motor sports enthusiasts in mind.

but its good to start with one than not to have one at all. maybe they start small to see outcome first.

with singapore and reclaiming technology, theres defenitely room for expansion.

more track hrs = more tyres + reace parts = ECONOMY

If the track doesn't open up to bikes, then :goodluck: It will close down believe me.

But 3.37km is ok, though smaller than PG. In the end, it's up to people to make it lively. Sepang MSS is mainly run on half track, and the distance is barely 3km. But still, look at the competition. And look at the competitors from all over the world participating.....from UK, Australia, now even Japan!

And take a look at the other racetrack....it has all the facilities...3.86km...but 2 MRS races per year? hmmm....

Size doesn't really matter to me...it's the people livening it up....

Frankly speaking its a rather shabbily designed small track, 3km and the way i see only 9 turns. Still can do no matter what. I think the management may sucks but sure we get to use the track one way or another. Safety has always been a paramount in motorsports, so gears can't be avoided. SMSA membership are much encouraged, so that they get more funds, they organise more events. As i said months back in dunno wat thread, with a local race track, we would be able to bring road safety and motorsports a big step further.

I am starting to imagine incorporating into malaysia/singapore races where one round each at sepang/PG/SG, and then reverse the direction for another round on each track. Hehehe, imaginations run wild. Best is have MotoGP. That means I can bump into ROSSI in orchard road!!!

P.S. I bet SPC will be just by the side of the race track!

Wow! You sure sound pessimistic/skeptical about the way things are on this island. But I'll have to say it's true to a large degree :( Everything that's done here are primarily for making money. So the government must already have something cooking already to want to built a race track. ROI, ROI, ROI. That's top on the government's head.

As I like to say, the government in most instance are saying "This is my 10 year plan, and we're at the 10th year" :) Everything is already planned out and when they want to roll it out, they'll start 'pretending' to listen to the public's opinion. IT was such a apt example. But again, that's politics so I shall not venture there.

And then again, we've no natural resources to rely on so it's not as if we've a choice. Just gotta be content leaving the planning to those higher paper pusher :)

But I digress. I think this will be the time for SMSA to prove it's worth. Their hands are very tight as well to begin with but I'm sure they're trying their best in this...

Wahahhahahaha!!!

Actually I was semi-serious on that one.

I'd imagine that we'll see something quite "unique" at T.I.S. if and once it opens.

We might have NTUC Income at pit entry checking every bike's ID and logging it. And it might even be mandatory and sanctioned by the Gov.

We might have TP and ROV skulking about at the entrance taking note of aftermarket parts installed on the bikes, waiting to give the rider an MTV Best Mod Of The Year "award".

We've seen how the authorities here work. We've seen the number of "controls" that they've put into place in the name of "protecting the public interests". Take the upcoming casino IRs for instance... I can't think of any other place in the world where the local or federal Gov actually imposes strict control over the admission of locals (on a secular basis, religious non-withstanding) over foreigners.

yeah, prolly ROV till be outside the circuit setting up road block to fine pple for illegal mods. or how about speed cams on the straights? or a hump in the middle of the straights to slow pple down?

I'm a relative newbie here who seldom posts but reads the forum whenever I can but seriously, I'm quite disappointed with the way people think here.

Instead of cheering the news that the plan for a race track is underway, most, if not all here chose to be a wet blanket over the issue.

The tender has not been awarded yet. What is known is that the tracks would be managed by a private company. What we do know is that works are projected to start in May and completion by March next year.

And being a private company, the company would have thought of the potential market base and NOT rule out entry to motorbikes. How often do you see local cars tearing up the tracks in PG or Sepang? I dare say the majority of customer base at race ttracks are riders. To restrict entry to riders would be pure suicide from a purely business point of view.

So please try and get a hold of yourself before starting all this govt/ smsa bashing. I agree that the Govt of ours will only go into some major project only if it generates profits. But what has a race track got to do with the building of a casino anyway? The only link I can think of between this two is the boost in casino profits whenever an international race rolls by.

So far, most of the posts here are sarcastic ones and if they are not, they are posts from pessimistic forummers. They dun build a track, people kpkb, they now wanna build a track, people started to pour scorn on it.

Just what do you guys want?

This I will agree to. I'm not in favour of people who crash their bike on the track and claim insurance to get it repaired. That's how you and I end up paying more insurance premium... Now if there's race track insurance, that's a totally difference story.

I guess that there will be a deal stuck with the tp and stuff like that....to not patrol the area so that they will not scare away potential track users and stuff...also i think tp guys will also be there with their own super modded bikes(illegal of cos)...

End of the day u realise that SG is having major changes..

Allow exhaust pipes.....(aftermarket)

Casino....

Topless dancing

bartop dancing

tell tp not to hide one corner then catch people...must put signs and on the light on their car bright bright...

u guys realise sg is trying to give a major change in its thinking.....

we are trying to break free from our past.....

so i think the track will be up and running within 5 years.

I will support it....with wat ever bike i have then.

but of cos is it is gonna cost $100 / h then maybe support like once a year.hahahah

da races at kallang also got TP wondering around da area.

wat makes u think da TPs won't wonder ard da new racetrack?

ppl who works in tuas(like me) will definitely know there are always a lot of TPs ard the area...

imagine if u get stopped by dem for illegal modification... don't think by saying "i'm going to the tuas racetrack" will stop dem from summoning u...

furthermore its profit to the gabehment if they summon us...

u think they care?

I did had a good laugh at the ERP gantry debut coz i know in the back of our minds the common sense tells that it won't happen but the topic brought by so much posts. I think why not post constructive views instead of making jokes and negative feedbacks. I'm sure some ppl who can make things happen will read it. Even if they get private agencies to run the track, this kinda places will be where they get ideas about generating feedbacks.

Malaysians also will come out to use our tracks if there are championship races held in our local tracks. Even the one i imagined that holding a championship that uses Sepang/PG/SG tracks isn't really impossible given the diff configuration of the race tracks. Can't really have sepang reversed due to the design, but then we can have 1 round north track & 1 round south track & 1 round full track in sepang, 1 round in PG, 1 round in SG, that would have 5 rounds to race a year, with 2 race per round, it is good enough for championships. I'm sure this will happen so as not to limit the market to singaporeans only, but malaysians as well.

TP issues are much to do with speeding so i guess if we keep our wild side to the track only, we will be safe from summons unless the mods u have has way breach safety, else i doubt they wanna bother about illegal mods. ROVs are the ones that are looking out for modifications. Think about it, nowadays street legals pipes are flooding the market. Brands like Leo Vince, GPR, Akrapovic, Arrow, Yoshimura, have baffles that are so easily detach/attach back. I think the pipe isn't too much of the problem. Engine mods are rather discreet so they won't bother also unless u knock down and kill someone. Sportsbike have fairings which i think even installing a turbocharger can hardly be seen. Only thing are maybe the guys who uses the race fairings which they try not to use the stock headlight and signal lights back again. But its often easily negotiated as we don't really use the bikes on the road. If its the sole means of transport for us, then changes have to be made to the choices during modification process to make our bike look more 'original'.

I think many things are sorta unnecessary worries among ppl. I hope my post will help them see in more optimistic views. Its not how big the track is but how technical it is to determine the fun. Its not how powerful the bike is but is how much you can control. Enjoy riding guys....
