Hi gurus.

I've just moved house successfully and recently set up my PC (After being in a warehouse storage for 3 months). The first thing I noted after booting was an error message "Config changed" or something like that and I'll have to press f1 to continue or go to CMOS menu (Press delete), which I did.

At this point, what I can see is that the date starts at 2003. So I amend the date (And save settings) and continue using it normally. Once I turn off, and boot again, same thing all over again. I have had a similar past experience and changed the battery on the motherboard. 2 new batteries later, still the same.

What is wrong and what can I do?

(SBF Thread 79551, Post #15) CMOS Battery

If the problem persists, the data in your CMOS ROM chip might be corrupted. In this case, you need to flash that ROM chip.

OK. I just got off the line with my regular PC Doctor. He insisted to me must change MOBO and will not look into anything else. Quite abrutedly cut off my line. Can you recommend someone who can do this for me?

Hey, sorry for the late reply. Perhaps you might want to bring your buggy computer to a reputable repair shop in Sim Lim for a check-up?

(P.S.: That guy over the phone with you seems quite rude. Be careful should you face these kinds of computer repairmen)

R3sistor - How to flash Bios? PC is about 3 yrs (I guess)

Is your PC one of those well known brand PCs?

If it is, you can go directly to the vendor's website to download any "BIOS update" that is being placed there. These kinds of updates will wipe out the information in your BIOS and put in a fresh new one. That's how flashing is done. FYI: you will need a floppy disk for this procedure

Side note: Flashing is to be done with extreme care. For instance, a power cut-off halfway through the procedure can cause incomplete flashing, rendering your system unbootable.
