For old bikes yes bro. Just to share my experrience. Mine was yamaha rxk. At times its on n off. When it first happen i tink off hundreds of dollars down the drain. But as i noe the exact source. I just go to my fav worshop n being charge $15 excluding engine oil. Not sure how cmplicated ur engine is. But having a good knowledge of ur bike will help prevent u from being carroted.

if the bike is in good condition, there wont be any leakage.

unless the bike owner let it go very cheap n u r prepare to do major repairs (few hundred dollars at least).

imo, forget about this n go look for another better bike.

Not all leaks are the same. Some look nasty, but is harmless though unsightly. Some look minor, but can cause major problems if left unattended. You need to provide much more information if anyone were to give any advice worth taking.

Past: KDX200, LC4 400, LC4 620, GSXR750WR

Present: CBR900RRY, Gas Gas EC250, XR250L, XR250RV, XR400 (motard-ed), NX650 Dominator

Are you gonna keep the bike long?? If yes, it's good to start sourcing for affordable gaskets. It won't be any immediate catastrophic failure. If no, just switch to a thick mineral oil EO like 20W50. Should minimize the leak and monitor. Just make sure EO level don't drop too much and you're fine.

Gaskets are cheap.. it's the labour that's costly

Some bike's gasket are not exactly cheap in comparative to other bikes and you know how shops mark up so much. It's better to just buy it at 10-30% cheaper and have it ready in case you want to change it. Labour charges are usually quite fix anyway unless the bike is super exotic so yah.

How about using an RTV hight-temperature silicone sealant? I think my mech used it for one of the bikes I used to own which is no longer in production (1900s Gas Gas EC200) when I changed piston. The bike held up in the trails well. A gasket seals to keep in the pressure between the 2 metal surfaces which has microscopic gaps; it's really important or you won't have a good running engine. See the extent of the leak. It's a common problem to have worn gaskets and hence leaks. I've changed them and it works fine. Inspect for any cracks. Those costs a bomb to repair. If in doubt, just walk away. There are many other bikes out there. :)

2 ways.

Make your own gasket. Go to auto shops, ask for gasket paper. Cheap per sheet, make sure you get the correct thickness. Place against sealing face n tap lightly with ball peen hammer to cut the paper. Punch out holes and apply. Ang moh have used cereal cardboard box to do the same thing and it works.

Use silicone sealant. Go buy permatex ultra grey. Follow instructions on packaging. It doesn't ball off and go into the engine if you use it sparingly.
