i doubt its advisable to switch off the daytime lights. in Singapore, we are required to have our lights on all the time irregardless day or night time. hmmm so is it the wiring or the bulb that i should change?

previously i was using a higher wattage bulb which blew almost everytime. so i switched to a 10watts bulb now and it has been doing very well for a few months until i noticed the left light dimmer than the right.

No no I was not telling you to turn off DRL. I just told you what I noticed while changing the DRL. I live in Sri Lanka so we dont have to have DRL. Anyway I didnt completely remove DRL. I just removed left head lamp and rear lights from DRL so that I save some wattage from the alternator.

Just remove the bulb clips in your rear lights and get the bulbs out and start the bike. Check whether the low wattage fillaments are only lit and not the brake filaments. If your brake filaments are partially lit all the time you may have a wiaring problems and that may be causing yoru heating issue.

hey guys,

report for my first paper. it was a disaster. it was the easiest paper i've seen in my entire life, and i blanked out. the answers just wouldnt come, no matter how hard i tried to recall them.

alas, the answers came like, 4 hrs later. by then i was completely and utterly distraught.

anyway, speaking of tail lights, mine are on on 'high' mode all the time now. Means that there is no difference in brightness whether i brake or not.

i wonder what went wrong again. I do notice the voltmeter showing some very low numbers though. At idle, is abt 11.9, and when moving, 12.something is what i usually get. something has to be tapping on it more than it should, and i guess this is it.

ZED : Kenneth is not ah beng. only uses stock light bulbs :D

kumudug : alright will take note of that next time i dismantle.

Shaun : its a simple problem to fix. there's something which can be turned at the brake pedal there.... i used to have that problem last time till my bike shop taught me how to fix it. kinda hard to explain... maybe i take pics then post here in a few days time.

i guess there could be some wiring issues specific to the rear taillight.

i was doing up the pilot light device i got from a fellow forumer previously. the device couldnt work properly which subsequently was traced to the rear signal lights which were somehow shorted with the brakelight bulbs. i.e. when i turned on the signal, the brakelight bulbs lit up instead. i was totally confused as it seems illogical to me there and then. after a few rounds of experiment with cutting of wires and joining them back, it was back to working well again. i never figured what went wrong.

subsequently, i purchased a 2nd hand (but new condition) non-OEM taillight assembly a forumer posted in garage sales. the assembly came w/ the wire harness. i am now happily using the new harness w/ no issues.

u juz need some adjustments to be done to the rear brakelight sensor.

the sensor is located behind the silver metal part (with holes) linked to the right hand side footrest.

Feel free to set this screw so that the lights doesn't come up until you put some serious preasure on the rear brake. This wont matter much cause you always apply the rear brake with the front brake. So the brakes will light up from the front brake switch.

unfortunately we can't do that too. in Singapore we have to have our rear brakes on all the time too. so its like... lights are on when travelling. when apply rear brakes, lights become brighter. yeap.

bros n sis'.. please enlighten me

just changed my sprocket to a bigger one, cause the chain is all loose and no room to adjust the real wheel anymore. But turns out they also change the chain also. I wonder why is that so. Why not just change one of them?

With bigger sprocket, i'm guessing i'll have a better torque but less top speed. correct?

when changing the two item above they found out that my brake pads are wearing off. although i didn't really feel it. in fact, the rear wheel can lock if i apply it hard enough. In BBDC they told me not to lock my rear wheel, cause then i'd loose control of my bike (fishtail maybe). But isn't a sign that the brake pads are doing their job?

lastly. now the rear brake doesn't seem to be as effective as it used to be. should i go back to the shop and re-adjust? or is this normal for newly replaced brake pads (u gotta let it adjust first or something?)

Thanks in advance :)

normally changing a chain means changing the sprocket also and vice versa. at least thats from what i know from my mechanic.

yo bro

the chain links will get stretched overtime and the entire chain length is increased. this explains why the chain adjustment will be maxed out overtime (provided u do the adjustments before the excessively loose chain drops out from the sprockets like what happens to bicycles sometimes). by the time there is no further allowance to adjust the chain, it should be time to change to a new chain. sprocket teeth will wear out overtime too. so usually chain & sprockets are replaced together as a set.

bigger rear sprocket offer better acceleration. if the difference in the number of teeth between yr old and new rear sprocket is like 1 or 2, the difference shouldnt be very significant.

:cheeky:

the fact that yr rear brakes still work doesnt mean it is not time to replace them already right? by the time the pads wear out totally, it will be the metal rotor/disc rubbing against the metal remains of the pads which may result in premature damage. it is not difficult to verify for yourself whether the pads are worn out already. abit hard to describe in words though.

:btw: u sure ride fast. was at the same traffic light as u the other day at ten mile junction. nice helmet and gloves~ :)

Hmm my tail light too insensitive.. Then when i hit the brakes it dont brighten.. i tried to tweak with the sensor.. but it dont seem to work leh. :dot:

There is no replacement for displacement, except for Ah Seng

the problem has gotten so bad that it is getting a bit hard to start the bike even.

and when its finally started, the voltmeter starts beeping cos it displays 7.4... after a few beeps, it will go up to 11.1 or 11.3 at most. when riding, it doesnt even go over 12.2 anymore.

i hope i can see the problem (looking behind the plate with holes) tmr before i go to sch. I've got a crazy day which includes sch at queenstown, then tuition at pasir ris, and sch again at queenstown aft. its my exam period now and i really cant afford any hiccups. =(

bad enough that i'm chionging erp without my IU everyday already, until there's an available IU for change at the mech. Now waiting for dunno whow many letters from LTA to come in.

just to share with all,

went to check with the mechanic this morning, he told me my brake plate surface is not even anymore, kinda like U shape. so when applying the brake with the new flat pads, only the sides are in contact. the old pads has already adjusted to the shape, hence the braking felt more effective using them.

he finally recommended me to apply harder pressure to the brake, until the shaping takes place. another option is of course to change the brake disc/rotor? but that will definitely cost something.

you're up early zed!

Would u like to have a cable tie? the ones u gave me was kinda loose and flimsy and guess what! it's now lying somewhere along the AYE(Jurong). haha.

i immediately changed to those permanent locking ones, meaning one tightened, cannot be removed unless u cut. U want? i've a few more at home.
