Crabbing

Crabbing is one of my speciality. I used to go tanjung rhu area to catch crabs using the big green colour square net. They are taught to me by one old bird guai lan uncle over there. I had 15 of those net and last time before they block the water outside to make plan for reserviour, i can easily get 40 over big size crabs including mud and flower crabs within 1 and a 1/2 tide. Now i am not sure if it is still as productive as last time because i had been in China for some attachment for half a year already. The last time i went was 7 to 8 months ago.

 

The tip for crab catching is to buy fresh tamans from market or if you want to save even more, you can go straight for net casting on school of tamans, usually early morning or before sun set. with those tamans, you tied one each onto the net in the center. for me, i will usually leave a spacing of around 4 to 5 meter for every net. The funny thing for the crabs in tanjung rhu is, they only visit your net when the tide water is running. Meaning from low tide coming high tide, the water will move in the canals slowly until it reach high tide. There are usually two to three stopping time for the water for every tide.

 

Now my attachment is ending and i will reccee for more area wih good productive of crabs. I had tried many places last time and the most productive is still at tanjung rhu. When i go back, i will try lab park, changi F T and other secret spots. For those interested crab serial killers, can jio me together because one person 15 net is very shiong.. alway take around 1 hour to finish setting up. i can bring my net but must help to set up and keep can already. and sorry if you people canot understand my english because i got a grade E in my O level years back.

 

 

One more thing.. if anyone is interested in digging big LALA or so called white shell, can try the canel near tanah merah MRT. Those are also taught to me by the thai worker. Last time every low tide can see families driving cars go there like pinic but everybody go down the longkang using the cover for fan to dig. last time two to three hour can dig around 15-20 kg of lala.. but now i dunno. if anyone interested i can also bring u all go. but must wait until i back in sg in about two week time

you mean the long slender type but quite thick also right? 1 time i went suntec kuishin bo japanese restautrant eat buffet...got that type of crab pinscers, free flow... eat until stuffed man...shiok!

the spread quite good la...if just wack the sashimi, crab, teppanyaki and higher-value stuff sure worth it...i dun take any rice items or cakes cos very fast will feel full.

 

i went about 2 months ago, weekend dinner buffet for 2 adult + 1 child cost slight above $100...cos i strike toto $90 that time...end spend it all on makan

fishing accessories shop should have the nets...dunno about cages leh cos nvr use b4.

i use to go sembawang jetty to catch crab, remember once there is this hardcore uncle with around 15 net cast along the jetty where i only got 5 nia..

Just to share my eperience: My english is simple cos I PSLE only.

I used to go to west coast park to do crabbing and casting of net for prawns and small fishes that was over ten years ago. Now the place is for parking the boats. I usually catch the meat crab ( big ones ). For the flower crab you can't catch in swallow water always in deep water. From my experience I always use shark head for the bait cos stingray and other fishes the smell hard to lure the crabs. Shark head got the super smelly smell but must wake up early to buy it from the market if not always sold out ( don't know who wanna eat ). Before you go crabbing read the tide at the newspaper. Now I don't know the newspaper got put the tide. The right time is the tide going down and coming up. Put all your net near the stones area. You can put it out to the sea with the white float. For the net place near the stone just lift up but for the sea make sure you have a y-hook pole for lifting the string to the net cos if you don't have u walk so near the crab will run away. If you caught the thunder crab just eat the pincher dont eat the body cos poison ( old man saying). Happy crabbing.

tg rhu is the place where cosy bay is situated.. can go by ecp and exit by fort road den to duman high den straight in to cosy bay..the whole stretch is tanjung rhu..
