Throttle, the bike is too beng-ish (hooligan) for an old man like me

bumped into sake recently. phang, heard you got the 8V special edition? share some insights on the rideleh. almost got myself a griso after I sold my sporty. still looking. possibly a tourer. :)

throttle, heard mr sake wants to rid the M for something more forgiving. had the honor of ripping his ride or the ride ripping me at the carpark... and yeah, it's a real beast. how are you with your M thus far? any regrets selling the sporty? :)

The M suits me just fine, mate.

The riding stance is more agressive than a standard streetfighter.

Imagine a sports bike with broad handlebar.

The 883R was great and the only reason for changing was my itchy backside.

No regrets ever on any of my bike purchases.

cheers

The green bike is long, low and heavy stationary but light and nimble once it is on the move. Engine is very responsive, it will rev to redline anytime in any gear. Low and mid range torque is strong and the output between 5500rpm to 8000rpm will pull an enormous G force enough to distort your eyes cornea to give you a tunnel vision.

The gearbox is fantastic, no false neutral, very positive shifting, easy to find neutral, not as clunky as BMW and it is a close ratio gearbox which is a perfect match for a street bike in my opinion.

The clutch pull is heavy, you got to train your left hand gripping muscles.

The brakes are over engineered, I changed the stock organic pads to sintered pads for a even more aggressive bite.

The bike has the tendency to “fall” into a corner. When you initiate a turn by counter steering, it will flip and dive into the corner.

Seat is very comfortable, it is the only bike that didn’t give me a sore butt after my usual 125km/2 hours round the Singapore island route. I think Italian know a thing or two in making good sofa and seat.

Mechanically, it has a very simple and straight forward design. No fancy gadgets or over complicated designs. It is a motorcycle in its purest form, nothing more, nothing less.

The quality of the parts, the fit and finish of the bike is above average, a big leap if you compare with a pre-Piaggio bike.

The fuel tank is small, it is a 13L+3L tank. Fuel consumption is 18~19km/L, the reserve light will turn on at around 230~240km. The 3L in the reserve is good for another 50+km.

A forummer PMed me about the W400 and it reminded me of this thread :thirsty:

Some updates on my W400:

It has clocked ~26000km and coming to 5 years old.

Tires – still running on the original Dunlop TT100GP, I reckoned the remaining tire thread can last until 30,000km.

Brake pads – still running on the original organic pads, will last for another 20,000km I guess.

Brake shoes – I only use the rear brake to hold the bike when it is stationary, I think the rear brake shoes will last longer than me.

Battery – original and coming to 5 years old, still gives a strong and consistent crank even I seldom ride it for the past 1 year.

Chain – almost zero wear and tear, the specifications of the chain are the same with W650, the output of a 400cc engine gives an easy life to the chain and sprockets.

Electrical – nothing to report, no fuse blown, no bulb blown, nothing.

Suspension – I have changed the stock rear shock. Mainly because of the stock rear shocks are crap and the springs started to rust. The current adjustable Kayaba/KYB nitrogen filled monotube are so much better than the stock item but the CNC aluminium shock body looks a bit too modern on the W400.

Nothing a little spit and polish, and generous amounts of elbow grease can't fix.

Hi Bodyslam,

There are 3 ways:-

1. Buy from the owner of the 5 units of W400 in Singapore.

2. Talk to MAH Pte Ltd, ask them to import one from Japan for you. W400 is already ceased production in Japan since 2008, there maybe some leftover new old stock bikes in Japan.

3. Wait for Kawasaki come out with a fuel injection version of W400 and talk to MAH or Evershine (Singapore Kawasaki agent). Kawasaki introduced a fuel injected W800 this year and I think they will make a fuel injected W400 soon.

woah, this has been the most informative read i have over the weeks!

Could anybody share who can i buy a w400 from? (the 5 owner?)

How much is it? 1st or 2nd hand?

Is the one in the workshop still available? Which workshop!

Thanks in advance!

The bike was around S$14,000 when new in 2006. Someone mentioned a used one is around S$8,000 now.

There are 4 blacks and 1 red W400 in Singapore, mine is the 2nd piece. The other forumer Apachezulu has got the 4th piece and I believe the W400 that bro Bodyslam just bought is the 1st piece.

The third one has a rear box and a rear mud flap. The last one, red in colour, sold not long ago after sitting in MAH’s showroom for 4 years :thirsty:

Thanks Bro Phang!

Bro Bodyslam, can reveal how much you have paid for the 1st unit?

Also the pics shown above where is that located? Is that on sale?

This one you got to ask bro 736cc :thirsty:
