UAVSS is a combatant vocation. u need to go thru infantry section leader course (SISPEC) after u pass out of BMT.

Basically the jobscope is to deploy and fly the UAVs remotely, supporting the UAV pilots(I think). Anyone please correct me if i am wrong.

so hows the working hrs like??

Lets put it this way... aces go places. Knowledge is power.

You could be in the squadrons or in the ALS flights, you don't learn fast and show them you know your stuff and that you can contribute as a useful member of the team in the generation of serviceable aircraft... you won't be going anywhere.

The team that supports overseas detachments is a lean team... every man counts, preferably with the ability to multiplex and multitask.

Passengers and sandbags are not welcomed. This is a fact.

Yup....that's true. Just came back from KohKaTiam Thai det....pretty good, for my trade.

The fighter boys are operating in Udon now. BOQ is already building. But next yr Cope Tiger will still be in Korat......my birds are going there again, but not me. It's gonna be 7 weeks in all....3 weeks Korat, 4 weeks KohKaTiam, LopBuri.

But if they ask for extra manpower for LopBuri, I might volunteer, ha ha...... :cheeky:

i intrested to know more abt UAVSS, anyone can tell me more??

hmm, since no current or former uavss guys have joined in this conversation...i'll just throw in my 2 cents' worth since i was from murai camp(the uav camp)

mika14 is correct, it's a combat vocation, so u'll need 2 go thru bmt n sispec b4 starting out as a uavs trainee. ur courses will be alternated at murai(flying training n tech training) n air force sch(theory stuff). one thing to note, this vocation also got trainees kena chopped n revocated elsewhere or pay back $$, so there...

as a regular u can b streamed 2 b an external pilot(EP- the guy launching or recovering the uav by control box visually) or internal pilot(IP- flying the uav for missions by instruments). mission commander(MC) roles r usually held by officers[wso(uav)]. as a uavss, u will also double up n b trained as a uav technician working alongside the senior techs. tt means u'll hafta clock flying hours n tech hours, which all translate into flying allowance n tech experience ($$!!).

if suay suay not enough nsf pple 2 attach out 2 the army for liaison during ops n exercises, u may hafta go outfield with ur fbo n camo cream, heh heh heh... now tt's a real pain coz going out with e army 2 the battlefield instead of flying the uav from a safe airfield means u dun get nice shift work n enough sleep... n i know this coz i was a nsf wso(uav) always attached out to army...

so u can see, ur job scope quite wide, also means alot of work...but then again, i think rsaf is the same throughout lah...haha :cheeky:
