If you sign on, the policy is then when you sign....maybe after a couple of yrs, the top management will come out something like a new career path. Since you are still bonded by the contract, it will affect you too.

Like for example when I sign on, it's a 7 yrs contract. During then got something call Full CPF.....but when I am eligible for it, it's no longer available. They came out a scheme call Premium Plan.....10 yrs contract. Whether you can get a career after the 1st 10 yrs depends on your performance and how far your management think you can go. So ppl who wanna stay will sign Premium Plan 1, but end up cannot get Premium Plan 2. So that's why low morale, and things like regret extending 3 more yrs, etc etc etc.

What I mean by transition is that, the Premium Plan is introduced not too many yrs ago, so probably the upper management will iron things out and make everyone as happy as possible......just that ppl like me cannot get to benefit from it, so I would say I'm stuck in the transition lor. I hope things will be better in the future for our younger technicians.

So you can see, not that alot of ppl ord, but have no choice.......must ord. Get it??? No more iron ricebowl.

eh eh.. sounds bad leh.. wat i know is now all pp1 rite? n diff to get pp2 rite? or depend on the abstab la..? if sign on 7yrs i tink alrite.. 10yr lik long leh..

given the pay.. i tink its y many ppl wan sign hor? correct me if i'm wrong..

so.. wat u ppl tink of workin in airforce? when i young they look lik steady steady leh.. the way u say..? y the top ppl dun wan to stick wif the old plan??

Simply beCoz you were impressive with your presentation and credentials during your first interview.

But then again.... you could call them up and F the hell outta them for not interviewing you a second before even sending you a letter asking you to sign on!!

In truth... if you are an iffy or borderline case to them... and they are not sure if they want you... they will interview you a second time to clear their doubts about employing you.

Geez... what do people expect nowadays?

It was not such a bad deal then. Since have to serve 2 1/2 years anyway, might as well ensure that a stable income is guranteed...plus there was the backpayment to consider...

Was a seven year contract then. Money went towards paying off parents' debts, new car, higher standard of living... and the my savings is now financing my studies in the uni. What's there to complain?

Nobody can force u to sign, and if u do, NEVER spend as if there's no tomorrow. Plan for the worst i.e. PP2 not offered for specs, change of priorities for offrs etc, hope for the best but keep your options open AND never burn your bridges, S'pore's not that big. U never know if your next civilian boss might be your boss from the military...

Depends where you are and your immediate superiors.....those who are "marked" of course everything also not smooth.

Let me quote an example.....few weeks back I was infected with virual flu and had to take MC of 3 days.....I was not reprimanded, questioned nor did anybody called me up to disturb me, except to tell me what's my showtime before I'm due to come back. When I was back at work, my colleagues including ALL my Enciks asked me if I'm 100% well, and if I need to see the MO again. A fella colleague who also took 3 days MC before me was asked tons of questions when he came back, as the Enciks doubt his integrity......just 3 months into this work year, he already clocked 10 days MC and he thinks it's ok as SAF gave us 30 days MC a yr. o_O And what tickles me till now is that he asked me why I was not questioned, and he feels it's not fair.....come'on. Even an ASS also knows the answer.

Anyways, for my section, tons of work.....and more work as the NDP is coming near. However, my offs are getting more and more. The welfare of my section is that my shift I/C keep asking me now and then when I wanna go on off. I mean, my Flt Encik is steady lor.....certain times, he will tell us no leave due to Audits and Exercise. As long as we co-operate and follow, he will give us the due respect and welfare. :thumb: Lucky got him around, if not, we will faint as our section WO is er...... :faint:

Well, it sounds bad, but recently, more ppl are getting the PP2......it's only bad for ppl like me, not here not there. For the younger ones, hopefully those who should get it will get it, and those who fight for it will also get it.

10 yrs or 7 yrs, to me the same......a contract will be a contract. So far, I feel I am pretty well taken care of, compared to my batch guys. Got my upgrading, promotions, and my overseas trip.....pretty good!!!

About why the upper management not sticking to the old plan is because I think the organisation have to keep changing. An organisation that does not change and improve is losing out as the rest of the world is constantly improving. And when changes happen, there's bound to be some side issues that need to be ironed out. Will take some time to make everything smooth. So those affected are what I mentioned in the "phase of transition"......

Sign on for money, such ppl have....as long as they are contended, they will be fine. Everybody needs money. If they are not contended and WISH to drive BMWs, Merc, Skylines, stay in condos.....sorry, SAF is not for them. Unless they have a very powerful spouse who excels in MLM or a rich family.

A colleague of mine, his wife earns $6k a month......sales manager. My fren comes to work everyday happy. ORD soon also no stress......admire.

It's a misomer that life in the military MUST be better than civilian life. i don't dispute that the money is stable and good, relatively speaking. But what u don't see is the behind the scene sloughing. i was once in a flt where day shifts meant having to work even on Suns and night shifts meant stopping work at around 0300hrs.

Ever tried having to wake up at 0300hrs to answer a call and having then to prepare for a presentation to the base commander at 0600hrs so that he can face the head honchos at 0800? Many many such experiences. But let's face it, the private sector is just the same.

Most people who've left complain of a thousand and one things. But i have encountered my fair share of ex-regulars back on ICT who actually wished that they had not left in the first place.

It all boils down to the person's attitude. i had a number of men who were pursuing further studies. Some had very poor work attitude, for such people, nothing less than throwing the book at them would suffice. For those who had positive attitude, i was prepared to give and take, a matter of you scratch my back and i'll scratch yours.
