Avramovic to coach Singapore until 2011

BANGKOK, Jan 8 (Reuters) - Singapore coach Radojko Avramovic has signed a three-year extension to his contract, which will keep him in the city-state until 2011.

The 58-year-old Serb, who has coached the Lions since 2003, will lead the team through qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup and the 2011 Asian Cup.

'I want to keep moving Singapore forward, I have a lot of support so I'm happy to stay,' he said on Tuesday.

'I had looked at other options but we've worked hard these last four years and I'm really happy with the way it's been going.'

The former Oman and Kuwait national team coach, who steered Singapore to victory in last year's ASEAN (Southeast Asian) Championships, said his focus would now be on the players of the future.

'We need to work on the development of about 15-20 up-and-coming players,' he said. 'We have to prepare for tomorrow because on Tuesday is already too late.'

Singapore are currently ranked 19th in Asia and 126th in the FIFA rankings. They will contest Group Four of 2010 World Cup qualifying with Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and Uzbekistan.

Ya he is good! If singapore got knighthood sure he get Sir Raddy hahaha.. But since here got no knight may be MP for some GRC also can when he retire hahaha..

Nieway I think based on what I watch S'pore v.s Brazil in the 2nd half I think S'pore did improve based on the 4-0 trashing of Malaysia last time..

Come one lets give them support after all even England who claims they are the founder of modern football have not win world cup or Euro cup for quite some time.

As those foreign talents.. Well since Singapore talented players don't want to take soccer as their rice bowl. Mind you there are lots of good players who don't play for club or national team because of many reason. I guess they are here to stay. Hey let us not forget our forefathers were once foreign talents as well. It didn't take a day to built Rome. Let just say we are moving foward.

It takes both heart and money to built a great soccer team!

Leave the racing in the track
